No watching fireworks for us. Poor dog is in bits again.

I have an upset dog lying on me for comfort.

We only had a few bangs last night but tonight they are closer.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 05/11/2022 18:35

The bangs feel like they are in our garden. She is shaking, panting in in a total panic.
she has managed to ignore it up to tonight but this is horrible

Polkadotpjs · 05/11/2022 18:38

Same. Panting so much I fear her heart rate is through the roof

Sarbears28 · 05/11/2022 18:40

My dog has adaptil collar, thundershirt and calming spray on but this year it's not working in the slightest..mainly think this is because lot of our close neighbours seem to be letting them off..hes tried running up the front door and hes peeing everywhere. He honestly looks like hes about to have a heart attack. I honestly wish they would be banned there is absolutely no need for them!! Especially for them to be this loud!! Oh and I also have a 7month old baby who is screaming with them. So angry!

Escourtie · 05/11/2022 18:41

Classic fm are playing special music too help dogs tonight may be worth trying

BiteyShark · 05/11/2022 18:42

I just wish they could only be set off at an organised event. You would then know the time and day, people could still enjoy them but it would only be for a short time.

Just been saying to DH that the poor wildlife must be terrified as well but they don't have any owners to comfort them.

JudgeRindersMinder · 05/11/2022 18:43

I’m snuggling with my pooch with classic fm which seems to be doing a not bad job for now

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 05/11/2022 19:15

They are going off sporadically at the front and back of the house, so just as dear dog starts to relax another fucker gets going 🙄.

My schnauzer is in a terrible state. Panting and shaking head to toe - I gave her two nutracalms today but they haven’t worked. I hate seeing her like this, I get so worried she’s going to be really ill.

Polkadotpjs · 05/11/2022 19:28

It's vile isn't it. Pup is shaking and panting and following me everywhere. I've tried the ignoring it except for extra cuddles, not reacting when one goes off but they're so bloody loud. Is there really any need? I can't wait for 10pm when last night's stopped. I've been Googling piriron as it's drowsy making but scared of dosing wrongly

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 05/11/2022 19:30

Even steady dog is starting to look concerned about the noise

AhmenGwendolyn · 05/11/2022 19:36

One isn’t fussed at all and is just comforting himself with his teddy but his brother is pacing a bit in between naps. It’s so loud and pissing down I don’t understand the need for them.

hiredandsqueak · 05/11/2022 19:42

Poor Bella is really struggling and pee'd in the house through fear. They are so loud this year.

MissyB1 · 05/11/2022 19:43

Sigh…. She has made herself vomit in the living room 😩

Polkadotpjs · 05/11/2022 20:04

Hugs to all the doggies and their humans

BestIsWest · 05/11/2022 20:09

Thundershirt and pet remedy de-stressing wipe here. He shook for about an hour but it all seems to have quietened down a lot and he managed to eat some dinner. Is now curled up in his blanket next to me on the sofa and seems happier.
Ever senior dog who is very chilled wouldn’t go out into the garden alone.

Freespirit42 · 05/11/2022 20:12

One of my dogs not bothered just hiding and lying down but one omg she’s actually hurting me scratching me climbing on me won’t leave me alone which is fine if she just lies there but she’s not she’s trying to stand on my shoulder she’s using her paws on me it’s very uncomfortable been scratched to pieces now I have loud radio on thinking that would mask the noise but nope she’s going mad

userxx · 05/11/2022 20:12

My dog used to hide in the wardrobe, she felt more secure in a small space.

Yes my little one likes to hide under bed fine but the other one has bruised and scratched me

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 05/11/2022 20:25

It’s finally quiet round these parts. I have a dog on each side, steady dog is lapping up the extra attention, fraidy dog is now calm and exhausted.

Poor doggos, my dog when I had him used to shake all night too. I have a cat and she seems supremely unbothered, wonder what the difference is?

redbigbananafeet · 05/11/2022 21:29

3 diazepam, 2 blankets and taiko drums have finally stopped my dog shaking.

FortunaMajor · 05/11/2022 21:37

I've tried drugs for the first time this year and it's been a huge improvement. I bought the Johnson's Calm-eze ones from the Range, just over a fiver for the packet. I expected them to be crap, but they've done wonders. I've been giving them since Wednesday to build them up.

I feel really guilty about it, but it has helped.

Still doing all the other stuff, thundershirt, licky mat, bunker to hide in etc. She's had a few brief pacing around incidents, but for the most part has been quiet in the bunker. It's a relief not to have her heart pounding near out of her chest.

I'll do it again for New Year.

So unnecessary. I'd happily never see another firework again if it stopped the trauma so many animals suffer.

My boy is completely deaf now, on bonfire week it's a blessing.

Spanielsarepainless · 06/11/2022 15:50

Trazodone from the vet (first time) and a thundershirt took the worst of the spaniel's anxiety off. But it's about time fireworks were restricted to organised, licensed displays when we would know it's happening.
