Handhold. Pup with suspected parvovirus

My little 9 week old Chorkie is at the vets with suspected parvo. He was absolutely fine until 8pm yesterday. He had his first jabs at 6pm and then went downhill rapidly.

I rang the emergency vets and they said it sounded quite normal. I stayed up with him all night rubbing water into his gums every so often. Then this morning he had a seizure and was no better in himself (couldn't stand, incontinent, not eating or drinking). So I took him in and they found him to be hypoglycaemic and he started vomiting and excreting blood.

I've been told to expect the worst.

Just need a hand hold.

When I say 'it sounded quite normal' I mean they were thinking it was post-vaccine fatigue.

Hugs 💐

I actually read a post on this today on my social media. Apparently there’s loads of it going around in my local area.

Update from vet - they actually think it isn't parvo now.

He has picked up no end and is able to stand up and eat and play. He was lifeless this morning it was so scary. He had a fit. They think that was all a reaction and hopefully he can come home at 6.30.

If his blood sugar crashes again before then he will go to the hospital but she's really hopeful. Xx

So cute! Hope he's feeling much better now Flowers

Riverlee · 01/10/2022 21:14

He’s adorable.

We were told there’s a lot more parvovirus around, partly because during covid, dogs weren’t being vaccinated.

Verytirednow · 01/10/2022 21:17

Yay. Glad he’s better.

I fostered two parvo survivors in Cyprus. Both now in the UK and thriving 5 years later. Hope your lovely puppy makes a good recovery. Parvo can stay in the soil so be careful with visiting dogs.

rcat74 · 01/10/2022 21:48

Sorry just seen it’s not parvo, great news!

hennaoj · 01/10/2022 22:38

Was he given the Lepto 4 vaccine? It's known for side effects.

NellesVilla · 01/10/2022 22:44
