My family had an Afghan Hound when I was a young girl! Be prepared that they can scale 6ft garden fences and run like the wind. I was forever being sent off to find him...

My childhood Afghan did this! Ended up at the local police station who’d feed him meat and ring the house to say they’d got our dog. I don’t recall him being that stupid though, wilful yes. Very good with our cat would sleep with him but we got cat as a kitten. Dog was already there. Once in Hyde Park he went up to a woman with a small dog and fell on it (dog was luckily ok) that is apparently the Afghan’s way of hunting, to fall sideways onto its prey. Stunning animal though, tiger brindle. And from Shirkhan breeders (very good American ones). Don’t recall much howling at all. Very soppy and good with children. You get lots of attention walking them.

I don’t have one but really admire them. A lady I train with has borzoi and those are also amazing!

There's a few near us (same household) and they're incredibly reactive to other dogs. I had a Google and apparently this can be quite typical of the breed. That's just my experience though - I'm sure there are some lovely ones out there.

I have no idea about this. Must ask my mum. A close friend of hers had a cream female Afghan and apparently they socialised together.

They look stunning. But even though my mum didn’t say, they’re supposed to be hard to train.y nana used to walk him and said he’d be off the lead (yes I know!) and would run round the corner of a street, then peek back to look at her round the corner then run off! Little bugger.

They are stunning! My mum’s though was never a show dog, he competed in one show though. My auntie as a child recalls brushing him. He was quite muddy and had messed up hair to me from my child recollection.
