Too old for a dog??

We were due to see a puppy today. We lost our old dog in January. OH said he'd changed his mind because he's now too old for a puppy and dog . He's 71 I'm 66. I'm just so sad to think that's it. We do have an 8 year old dog so aren't dogless so to speak.

Anyone else feel that your present pet will be the last

Im almost 65 and we had a new puppy last year. Our previous dog sadly died during the height of Covid pandemic and we were lost without her.
I had forgotten how much work puppies are and she really kept us on our toes for the first few months but well worth the effort.

The thing I don’t get is that those with small children shouldn’t get a dog, or those working full time and not too old either. It leaves a very small window of time for some of us to be a ‘suitable’ dog owner!
