Puppy essentials

Well after a couple of years deliberations, research, reading and generally scaring myself, I've now taken the plunge and finally picking up our new puppy!

I have all (what I consider) to be essentials under control, but I'm interested in your "must have's" and anything golden gems that a newbie wouldn't necessarily think about! Thanks!

Our crate is in the kitchen although I often see recommended to start in bedroom.Pup has been fine, DH went to her on night one and I did on night two but nothing since. She occasionally wet her bed in the first couple of weeks but nothing for the last five.
Because it has been so hot we haven't put a blanket over it but we might going forwards. Our kitchen doesn't lend itself to a puppy pen but I think they are great if you have the space or have a utility or back hall to let the dogs rest in.
With our last pup we let her sleep in a cardboard box on our room for the first few nights but when it became clear that she wasn't going to wake we transferred her to the crate downstairs in the kitchen.

A very small bowl (eg ramikin) for water to save having constantly soggy spaniel ears.

Also lots of toys for the evening mad piranha phase.

Licky mat that sticks to the fridge is great for when you need a few minutes peace - smear natural yogurt & stick in the freezer to extend time taken.
