Best dog food for kidney problems (elderly dog)

My elderly dog has developed a load of health issues. Currently has Cushings. Congestive heart failure, probably a tumour and now looks like her kidneys are on their way, possibly due to the medication shes on as much as age.
She was already quite old when we rescued her so isnt insured and is costing me a bit these days. Theyve advised i put her on kidney friendly food. Low protein etc.
Ive now put her on Chappie tins and urinary care by royal canin.
Does this sound ok? She was previously on Butchers tins and Crave biscuits but they are too high protein. She seems to like the chappie well enough. The biscuits she accepts.
If anyone has any other tips or ideas please let me know, as prescription food seems to be silly money, esp on how much im paying for her medication and frequent blood tests.

Despite all this shes happy and enjoying walks and her food and apart from slowing down and going deaf, you would hardly know there was much wrong

I had to ask my vet these questions but in the end it was an error in the tests. There is nothing you can add to standard dog food to make it suitable for a dog with kidney failure. Look at the kidney disease dog foods on Amazon and start comparing. Hills and ProPlan make it. Royal Canin is not good quality and is owned by Pedigree now. Old dogs do cost a lot but you want to make their remaining life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I hope you work something out.

My dog has Royal Canin for lunch and her evening meal I just put this powder my vet recommended in her normal favourite James Wellbeloved food or in homemade chicken and rice. She is doing well on this and is staying stable at the moment. The special renal food is quite unappetising for dogs so this powder is great as she can just have her normal food once a day and works out a lot cheaper than renal food.

Virbac. There's no other dog food as good. I have 3 friends who are vets and all 3 feed it to their dogs. Superior to any other dry food.
