Barking dog in the morning, neighbour complained

We wake up just gone 6am each morning. Let the dog out and generally leave the door open whilst we get ready, especially since the weather has been better. There will usually be something that the dog will bark at so we would go and get her in. However if we are in the shower barking will be heard whilst we are getting ready and if there is something to bark at. Our neighbour has complained. We will look at bringing the dog in straight away after they have been to the toilet. I feel terrible this must be waking them up and disturbing them, it is obviously causing them annoyance. Are there any tried and tested methods for making the dog less reactive? The barking is defiantly reactive and it’s like they are on high alert when first going out in the morning. Usually the barking is when other dogs bark, noises such as electric scooters etc, sometimes birds if they are in the garden that type of thing. Thanks in advance.

Our NDN's got home at 11.30pm last night, and let their freak of a bulldog/bully xl cross out into the garden where it barked non stop for about 20 minutes. Its got such a deep bark it could wake the dead......... and it was out at 6am for another round. I think they were probably drunk as there was no reaction to it at all! If we weren't trying to sell, I'd be getting the council involved.

Don't be that neighbour.

It never fails to amaze me the times people will leave dogs barking in the garden, early or late. Must be very free-ing to be so oblivious to social norms that you can leave your dog barking for half an hour at 2AM (looks across the road LOL).

Worked well again. We were letting her go out for a wee alone and wonder back in and out. Now we go out and her attention is on us and she comes in with us and has a treat. Will see how it goes for a another couple of days. I walked her about 30 mins after her first wee and she was back in her room quiet until I did. If this was a really bad problem where she went out and just barked I would consider delaying letting her out but I don’t think at this stage we need to use that measure.

I just want to reiterate, she wasn’t left barking, if we heard and barking we would go see her during that short period she was allowed to wonder. She would then be back in. I appreciate one bark is one too many. She wasn’t doing this daily. But a change in this routine while the weather was dry was silly of us.

Definitely and defiantly are two very different words. Sorry, pedantic I know but reading it so many times in so few posts was painful!

@IndecisiveAnnie are you on the right thread?🤣

Yep!

@IndecisiveAnnie well if it makes you feel better to be correcting people randomly without any input to the thread topic that’s good for you

OP can you be my neighbour please? The fact that you care and are doing all you can to rectify this, rather than go into denial that anyone should dare criticise your darling fur baby is like a breath of fresh air. You sound a wonderful, caring person. Will you tell the complainant what you’re doing? I’m sure they hated coming round so it must have wound them up, as you said.

Long may this good behaviour continue! Good doggie!

I have a dog and I would complain too! You can't just let him out to bark at 6am.

Someone needs to go and stand out with him, and bring him inside as soon as he's done his business.

Perfectly said! One of our neighbours has got another neighbour in deep with Environmental Health as her dog was out at 6am or earlier and again a number of times a day us after 11pm. Barking every time which drives us all nuts. No other dog in our area including our own, does this as they all had training.

Sounds like a positive result OP, Im up and out with winterpup at 5.30am, theres 1 house we walk past each morning who has what sounds like a small terrier dog, their bedroom windows have been open and when we walk past the dog goes bananas and all I can hear is 'misty shut up be quiet'........ its a terraced house so wouldnt like to be her neighbours!
