Shampoo/conditioner, golden retriever

Can anyone recommend a shampoo and conditioner for a very fluffy (rather than smooth haired) golden retriever?
A fairly mild shampoo as she has sensitive skin and a nice conditioner that doesn't leave a greasy film and then attract crud!
I don't mind spending a bit extra for something good.

Bugalugs is great. They do a few sensitive ones I think oat based

We use a Cooper and Gracie combined shampoo and conditioner - all natural and very mild, and it works well on our dog's poodle coat. They also do a conditioning spray if you need extra?

I don’t think there is really any need. I have washed my GR once in 6 years abd used baby shampoo

Different coats make such a difference to their washing needs, don't they? Olddog was a wire haired terrier - the double coat meant that he dried super fast, mud just fell off him. We very rarely brought him home or put him in the car wet or dirty, and he went years without a bath. Newtrick just gets filthy, soaking, and stays that way for hours, he just doesn't dry off - plus he used to get really smelly at daycare - we used to bathe him a couple of times a week! Not quite so bad now, but still regular.

Picture attached of one of his more extreme moments!

Yeah I'm not sure this stuff is even necessary. Their coat has natural oils that need to stay on their coat. Very rarely shampoo mine but I just use baby shampoo on mine if need be.

If they roll in things however it may be a bit different.

My boy has been bathed once in 2 years of life, I wouldn’t and I don’t think they need bathed just regular brushes and trim paw fluff really. Same with old retriever he looked great after a thorough brush and smelt fine

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll also get a bottle of baby shampoo too and then see which one suits best.
I wash her as infrequently as possible but she starts to whiff after a while, do others not find this too?

Ours definitely smells after about a month. Keihls do such a lovely dog shampoo and conditioner! It makes her smell great for at least a fortnight

Goawayangryman · 10/07/2022 22:32

I think it probably depends how averse you are to the smell of wet dog. It's not that pleasant but I just think it's part of having a dog. Maybe I should shampoo her more often anthough the cost of living crisis will have to abate before keihls becomes a possibility

We very very rarely wash our golden - just water when muddy, the shampoo only comes out for fox poo! He doesn’t smell.
