Good or bad experience? I like the idea but I’m a bit worried about the safety side of it.

Our borrowmydoggy lady has stayed at our house when we are away to look after rookiedog.
It started by accident as we had a neighbour who is a paid dog walker/sitter lined up for when we went to NZ pre pandemic, but none of us had factored in his reactivity to cats ( rookiedog this is).So it fell through and I thought I'd ask the bmd lady.

She was very happy to do it - we live in a big house near woods and she is in a flat-share. Cost wise it wasn't much cheaper than it he had stayed with our dog walker as we booked extra walking as she couldn't wfh, got her a voucher for dinner at the local pub and brought back holiday gifts.

Rookiedog loves her and gets so excited when he sees her. I think he gets more snuggles with her than with us, although possibly a bit less walking.

I trust her more than I do myself as she grew up with dogs and I didn't.

In the future when certain events have happened I wouldn't want the responsibility and cost of owning a dog again, but I'd be right up for being a borrower and taking one for a couple of weeks now and again.

We had other owners saying "oh, could you not come every Thursday to take him out at 10am" - what those people are looking for is a free dog walker

Oh that’s cheeky and absolutely not what I’d do. Between DH, me, DS1, his GF and our DD and our weekly dog walker there’s plenty of input, it’s just on the odd occasion where we’re stuck or if someone wanted to walk him in addition to his normal walks (he never turns down a walk!)

I actually read on Mumsnet that posters are using Borrow My Doggy when they go on holiday. That would save me an absolute fortune!

I wish someone would set up 'Borrow My Kitty' to save on cattery fees!😃

That’s a great idea! I have a couple of friends who have lost their own cats recently who’d bite your arm off for the chance to have another cat for a little while Smile

Isn't the issue with cats that they can be quite territorial and would probably escape and get lost, or have accidents in a strange home?
