Did My Dog Have a Seizure?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking after my family dog. We got him when I was 13 and he lives with my mum and dad, but I'm dog sitting this weekend.

He is a 12 year old terrier. This morning, he jumped off the bed fine and then as he was following me, his hind legs just collapsed and he completely froze. It looked like he was doing a poo, like that position, but stuck in it. He was staring at me. Almost like he had seen a ghost.

I picked him up and he was trembling and I carried him the rest of the way towards the door. As I carried him, he was trembling but stiff. I placed him outside as that's where he was heading, and he walked normally from that point.

He came back in and was trembling and crying so I've given him a dentastix and wrapped him up in case he's cold. He seems OK now.

He had a seizure a couple of years ago. In that seizure though, he urinated himself which is so unusual for him. He was also convulsing. This time wasn't like that, so I have no idea if he had a seizure or not.

Is he just getting old and more anxious? Confused and worried.

That does sound like a seizure. Maybe see a vet sometime to see if he should have medication?

I think you need to contact the vet. My old dog has seizures and we have medication to give her when it happens.

Thanks for your replies! My parents took him to the vet after his seizure a couple of years ago, and the vet said he looked healthy and if it happened again to go back, so I'll definitely contact the vet to let them know.

It may have been a spasm or problem with his legs, still definitely worth seeing the vet.
