Puppy and older dog getting too rough

We have an adolescent dog and a 15 week old. Occasionally play is getting way too rough. Am I doing the right thing by separating them when things get too rough? Any other tips?

I have a nine year old and a five month old and I separate them when it gets rough. You need to protect the puppy's joints from too much stress, and my older dog doesn't relish being pulled around too much either.

Thank you, my older dog is the one who gets too much but the pup can sure give as good as he gets! I just want to be sure that I am doing the right thing

We are going through the same. 13 week old puppy and 18 month old. The older dog is a lot smaller but is definitely in charge. Pup has already scraped older dogs neck by accident and he has a big scab. I was told by the trainer if they have 30-60 seconds of full on, very bitey play with no breaks then to separate them. There are some really useful guides online to show what is and isn't ok.

I do worry about it though.
