Dog not well after the snip

Just posting on here as it's the weekend and I'm unable to speak to the vet

My 9 month old puppy was neutered 3.5 weeks ago, and recovered fine

He went to the groomers yesterday, and ever since I picked him up, he's been miserable, and licking a new little sore bit on his penis shaft (not the incision area itself tho). It doesn't look infected, but he's really sleepy and sad

He didn't even get out of bed to greet me yesterday which is very unusual

Just wondering if something sinister could be lurking or if I can wait until Monday to see a vet

I think it's just a coincidence about the groomers, as they seem lovely and get brilliant reviews. But thought I should mention it

Do you think the groomers could have nipped/hurt him?

Dingdong99 · 09/04/2022 08:34

I don't think so, I'm not sure what they could have done to make him like this

But thought I should mention just in case someone had a similar experience

Grooming can be exhasuting for some dogs and tiredness the day after is not uncommon.

However you are with your dog in RL so do give your vets a ring when they open this morning if you are concerned. Better to be safe than wait.

It sounds like it's to do with the groomers rather than the surgery.

Even the best groomers can make mistakes and nick or accidentally hurt a dog. Very few dogs will always sit perfectly for a groom so wriggling and moving about is common.

Why is your first thought that it's to do with his surgery if that's was 3.5 weeks ago and he's already fully recovered? If his behaviour changed as soon as he left the groomers surely it's obvious something happened there?
