My dog is a woofy nervous girl. Her breed is reserved with strangers (adorable once she decides you are in her pack) so vet trips scary for her. She became vet reactive after a frankly awful experience during the first lock down..she'd hurt her leg, but the vet literally dragged her off me in the carpark, didn't listen to me, and told me she needed to be muzzled.
We changed vets and the new one is wonderful with her (and doesn't need to muzzle her), but the damage was done.. she's terrified of them now and barks if we even walk past the vets!
Anyway she has some allergies.. spring pollen being one of them and she's been itchy and sore, so we needed to go. Today was the first time we could go into reception with her, and to my horror it wasn't her usual vet.
But.. she woofed 3 times. ..then went in, let him examine her, even lift her onto the table (and she's a big dog), and was perfectly behaved !!
We've worked quite hard with the CARE approach to her reactivity and it is paying off, but I'm just so proud of how well she coped today!
