Grateful for any advice here. I had dogs when I was growing up but that was 20 years ago, so very 'out of practice!' My kids are 4&6 and we'd love to expand our family with a puppy. Initial stages of considering which breed and I'm quite ignorant of personality types etc.

Looking for :
Non-shedding
Family friendly, good with little kids
Small / mid size, say spaniel sized
Not a yappy dog
Easy to train
Generally easy going
I work from home so will be around
Couple of short walks a day, say 40 mins
A big cuddler Smile

What are the options?
Thanks so much for any info.

Mini Schnauzer or King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.

Talk to Dog’s Trust. Talk to a vet. Talk to any friends who have dogs…?

No offence but you sound so clueless, I wouldn’t trust you with a puppy.

Do you have training sorted out? A puppy cage? House training?

Get the basics in place first. Please.

That's a really weird response to someone who's just starting to do the initial stages of looking into getting a dog Confused

I don't think you need to get training sorted and a cage before you have even decided what sort of dog might suit you...

We love our very cuddly sensitive playful Yorkie. Our first dog. He has one or two 15-20 min walks a day but can go for ours if we're on a day trip.
Non shedding and very very cute.

no Tibetan terrier recommendations yet?!

Would say with some thing like a cockerpoo that although they are very cute, they are also bred from working dogs and do need exercise and training.

Standard schnauzer! Mini schnauzers suffer from the same issue as all the other Mini dogs.

Standard schnauzer is perfect. Very clever & easily trainable. So soft and cuddly. Personally I love a teddy bear cut, like a real fluffy teddy!
Maintenance cost of non shedding dogs are all quite high. You should learn to clip yourself. Trim the nails and clean the ears. Easy peasy.

Thanks so much everyone 😊 apart from that one hilarious, but unhelpful comment!! I'll have a look at all those breeds you mentioned, thanks!

I always say this, as have a soft spot for them, but what about a Bichon?
