Anyone used a clipper on their own dog?

My dog has small matted bit of hair. She won’t let me near her with scissors but she doesn’t mind me running through the hair with clippers. It’s on the longest setting at the moment so isn’t actually cutting the hair. I am not sure if it will take the matts off , or will it get tangled and pull at the hair? Does anyone know? I have considered taking her to the groomers and may just have to do that . But I just thought if this worked it may be easier for her. She doesn’t need regular grooming really. Brushing pretty much keeps on top of most matts it’s just these ones which appeared when she was with friends for a few days and wasn’t being brushed regularly during that time

Never tried one of those. I would refer to just cut the matts off. She tolerates me grooming her with one hand. It’s as soon as I try to use both hands for whatever I am doing that she gets suspicious and jumps back away from me. I think with two hands she thinks I might try and grab her or something

Clippers get "stuck" in mutted hair. Best to either cut/ brush them out or take the dog to the groomers.

I clipped my dog a couple of times during the lockdowns, but you need to make sure you get the mats out first otherwise they’ll get caught in the clippers and it’ll be really painful for your dog

Right. That’s what I needed to know. If they are likely to get stuck then I won’t bother. Will stick to scissors for now
