Fostering dogs - tips and what to buy?

We lost our dog last year and decided we didn't want another for a while. However a rescue we have friends at is desperate for foster families and after a lot of thought we are going to go for it. It is a breed specific rescue that is foster based (same breed as the dog we lost). Since we are a dog free home we are like gold dust apparently! The dogs get rehomed easily but they need fosters for generally 2-8 weeks at a time (2 weeks if they have already been spayed/neutered and have no medical conditions) to learn about the dogs and get them ready for their forever homes.

This would suit us well as we have the space and time and our children are teens. We can also fit it around our lives somewhat (not taking on fosters when we are very busy at work for example).

Does anyone who fosters have any tips and what should we buy so we are prepared for our first doggie?

Thanks 😊

You will just need whatever you would have when it's your own dog.

I foster, and the rescue will provide everything - food, bowls, crate, collars, puppy pads, medication, coats etc. We do buy stuff as we like to, but things you might want ahead of time are pressure fit stair gates to let you reduce the area the dog goes into without having shut doors, really good pet accident spray, quality kitchen roll (they supply us with blue roll but I don't like it), crocs (I spend a huge amount of time standing in the garden waiting for people to wee), dressing gown with a hood (for standing in the garden at 2am in the rain waiting for them to wee), and a dog bed.
It can be challenging at times, but is so very rewarding to see a scared dog go on to their forever family and blossom
