Has anyone ever been on ? Do people think these shows work for desperate people?

A behaviourist will have an MSC in relevant subject.

They need to belong to either ABTC or AASB, CCAB, APBC.

Without this they are not a qualified behaviourist. All behaviourists will ask for a vet referral before they start working with your dog again a big flag if they dont.

From what you have said I am pretty sure that the behaviourist you meet would not met the above criteria but if they did then do get in touch with the organisation as they need to know.

I wish the industry was more regulated so that it is easier for clients to know who they are getting involved with.

Hope your next one is better

Oh another thing if you have insurance they will pay for the correct behaviourist so if they behaviourist is happy to take money direct from insurance that may also help your decision.

Dog training is about repetition, consistency and only rewarding the behaviour you want....
It takes a lot of time and patience and there isn't a magic formula for instant fixes!
Any dog trainer/ behaviourist not advocating the above isn't worth their money.

Oh god, I hate watch it every week! It winds me up so much

I do this with mumsnet but rather read than watch.

Graham Hall uses recognised training methods - if you have seen Victoria Stilwell on It's Me or the Dog, the same methods are used. Victoria Stilwell has a website 'Positively.'

I like Graeme Hall - he is calm, kind, logical and correct in that most problems are caused by owners! Some of it does seem an unbelievably quick fix but obviously very heavily edited which I sometimes forget.

Some of the owners seem incredibly dense but clearly love their dog eg- the couple whose dog chased shadows so they blocked every bit of light from their home so the dog couldn't see shadows to chase! That was a very interesting one.
