Could my dog be cold at night?

My springer spaniel sleeps in his crate in the kitchen at night and I'm wondering could he be cold. We have a thermostat thing in the kitchen that's linked to my phone. I woke up cold last night and turned the heat on from my app (so from bed). It said the kitchen was only 13 degrees. Should i be tucking him in with a blanket?!

Our spaniel would be cold. It’s a similar temperature in our room and you can tell when she’s cold as she’ll want to start on her bed but on colder nights she either gets on the bed and snuggles in the duvet or right up to my back for warmth and under it if needs to . I think a blanket a good idea in case

My beagle would be really cold at that temperature if he wasn't doing anything.

He sleeps in our bed under the duvet but even downstairs during the day he buries himself under all his blankets Grin

Thanks everyone. He has a dog bed in his crate so isn't sleeping on the plastic bit. I think the best solution is to tuck him in with his blanket then he can decide if he's too hot.

Never a peep out of him overnight. It just occurred to me that he could be cold .

I guess all these dogs in bed are why on Mumsnet bedding has to be changed every couple of days . My dog has a big thick coat and he snores and licks his bits all the time . I can’t think of anything worse than him being in/on the bed . Your dog will be fine with a blanket or a snuggly bed

OP he would let you know if he was cold. The fact that you do not hear anything from him all night and he sleeps better on his own is a good indicator he is happy and comfortable.

No way ever will my dogs sleep in my room and never ever ever sleep in my bed!

The dogs are in the dog room downstairs and totally happy to be there. The collies choose to sleep on a stone floor even though there are warm raised beds for them to sleep on. It is a pretty chilly old house but they are totally happy. I doubt it gets to 13 degrees in the winter.

The wcs sleep on vet bed on raised beds with extra vet bed they can snuggle into if they need to - they rarely do.

My bedroom is blissfully tranquil, totally clean and spotless and my peaceful haven. Smile If the dogs are ill or had surgery etc I will sleep in their room with them but they do not cross into my room.....Smile

Oh blimey, my dog (he’s a mixed breed but definitely has springer spaniel in him) has a crate, bed, blankets and cushion in his room but always chooses to push them aside and sleep on the tiled floor by the back door. I worried he would be too cold, but any attempts to put blankets on him or put him in a warm bed last about 5 minutes and he’s back on the tiles again. House isn’t freezing but he seems to like the coolness of the floor. He has lots of fluffy fur though, which may mean he gets warmer than other dogs.

He’s in there now, legs splayed, on his back fast asleep by the side of his bed and cushions after a long walk this morning. 😆

Plenty of dogs have survived over the years sleeping out in a kennel so I'm sure he is fine in the kitchen. Just make sure he's out of any draughts and he has blankets to snuggle into, he will be fine with his built in fur coat.

Of course he should have a blanket, but a duvet would be better

That pic of yours tucked in reminded me of this pic from a few years ago.
