Ear infection - what can I do to help before dog gets to the vet? Anything?

I posted earlier as my dog is shaking (unusual for him) and I’ve realised it’s his ear that hurts and it’s hot inside to the touch (Cocker spaniel). I phoned the emergency vet and they told me to call again to get an appointment for tomorrow in the morning.

What can I do to make him more comfortable tonight? Is there anything?

Probably not to be honest, you could try clipping away some fur if he tolerates it and prevent her from scratching if you possibly can.

No, I wouldn't mess with it.

Ears are delicate and you want to make sure she's checked over fully by a vet before she gets any medications.

If you give her something tonight you could
mask her symptoms or worse, give her something that makes her really unwell.

She'll be fine to wait until morning.

Have you got any metacam?

Thornit canker powder is brilliant at treating sore and stinky dog’s ears. X

It depends, Where I live my Cocker would frequently get spiky grasses in his ears, the vet told me to pour in a little bit of (olive) oil, this calms the pain, as it stops the progression , until the vet can remove the grass.
the relief is instant.

But I knew it was a grass, you don't know if this is your dog's problem.
if it is, following this incident, I would get the inside of his ears clipped & the surrounding hair at the entrance to his ears kept short,
check every time he comes in from a run...
Same with toes, check between their toes daily.
