My dog is constantly chewing & licking herself!

It's driving me insane! We've been back and forth to the vets over the last couple of years (she's 4 this month). Spent hundreds on various steroids, specialised hypoallergenic food, washing powders etc.

She's constantly at it and sometimes she chews & licks so much it starts to look very irritated. The vets always put it down to allergies or stress e.g. anal glands need done but I'm always on top of this as a precaution.

Just feel like I'm at the end of my tether with it, it's literally non stop unless she's asleep.

Can anyone else relate or have any tips/suggestions?

Try raw feeding?

I'm going to suggest trying her on a raw meat diet, with all the usual provisos, it's not suitable for every household & you do need to be more careful when feeding.
But it solved my DM's labrador irritations.

I can relate. My dog is 5 and exactly the same. Much as we love him it drives us crazy (and him too!). No advice but will follow with interest

I had a dog with this problem who was losing a lot of fur and looked a mess. Another dog walker suggested Evening Primrose oil so I started giving her capsules alternate days and the fur started growing back immediately. I told the vet and he said she could have a capsule a day. I continued giving them to her and she swallowed them like treats until one day she just refused to take it, I suppose she just knew she didn't need them any more.

Have you had investigations? There are various excellent medications for allergies, but they control the symptoms there are no cures it is all about management.

We had this with my dog and two things really helped. One was switching to grain free diet and the other was the Cooper and Gracie 'anti-bac, anti-fungal itchy skin spray'. As soon as we sprayed that on my dogs skin my dog would be relieved of the itching for a while, then eventually on the grain free diet the itching completely stopped.
