Dog tied with bitch despite being on Suprelorin implant

Do I need to panic?? I thought this wasn't possible!! Our boy has had the implant for approx 4 months, it should last at least 6, the vet said more likely a year. Is it possible she's pregnant? From what I've read the chances are very low, but does anyone have any experience?

Well, to be fair, even a fully neutered dog can tie on if he had access to a female in season. (Much to the surprise and horror of my ex, he had never seen dogs mating and thought they needed medical attention 😂)

It really depends on what the implant is designed to do. If it inhibits sperm production, you may be ok.

Can they?? I didn’t know that. The implant was a kind trial to see how being neutered would possibly affect him. I genuinely didn’t think he’d be able to do the deed with the implant, so I was most surprised to discover them (understatement). The implant should reduce sperm production to nothing, his plums have shrunk to peanuts!

From reading the leaflet, it sounds like it should be ok, as his sperm production should be low for quite a while. You can get bitch pants or dog nappies that will stop him tying successfully in the future. He's probably feeling pleased with himself 😁

In your scenario I would be taking the bitch to the vet - you don't want to risk an accidental pregnancy and the earlier you get her medical care, the more options you'll have.
