8m old puppy started waking at 6am every day

Last couple of weeks or so it’s 6am pretty much on the dot. Prior to this was around 7-7.30, which feels so much more reasonable!

He has a wee before bed (around 10ish). At 6am I’ll let him out to wee and he tends to settle again for an hour or so until everyone starts getting up for work and school.

Also woke to 2 proper poos on the hallway floor this morning which has never happened before.

Just wondering if this is a phase or if I’m destined to be up at dawn forever

The clocks have just gone back so is he just on summer time, he doesn’t have a watch!

On the accidents, maybe he needs a walk before bed to make sure he’s been to the toilet?

DP did take him out round the block last night to see if that would help him empty his bladder fully - he did a poo as well so not sure what this morning was about!

I don’t know much about puppies but surely 10pm till 6 am is really good for such a young puppy? I thought most puppies need to wee every two hours or so at this age?

Oh 8 months not 8 weeks! Ignore me.

It's a phase

Just stick to a routine of "nothing exciting ever happens before 8am, except striaght out for a wee and back to bed" and he'll eventually settle to it.

If 8am doesn't suit you - pick a time that does

If he carries on pooing overnight, look to rebalance his meals so that he doesn't eat quite so much late in the day, at least for a while.

Is there a regular noise that disturbs, eg heating coming on?

My dogs both used to wake at 5.30 am every morning, when ND (but one) N used to leave for work. It was bliss when the clocks went back and he used to start later for 3 months.

I think it’s probably a phase, ours went through this. But settled down. And will wake us if she needs a poo in the night if upset tummy or something.
