Dog boarding payment

Just a quick question to those of you who have used boarders. Do you pay on booking or on collection of the pup? I’m being asked to pay on booking which worries me in case something goes wrong but I may be being silly and this may be how it always works. What’s the norm from your experience?
And actually I think the law is that anyone who boards animals for money needs a licence www.gov.uk/guidance/boarding-for-cats-or-dogs-licence-england
It's a complicated one. It came up on a dog walking group I'm member of recently it got very heated Grin

It appears different councils have interpreted the law in different ways.

@Clymene

Good for your friend. Wouldn't touch her with a barge pole though I'm sure she's very nice.

I've never heard of Rover although you seem very keen on it Hmm

Ha . I don't work for them if that's what you're implying although I do work in tech .

Ultimately people can do whatever works for them with their dog .

I personally don't agree with kennels but there we go .

No, neither do I, which is why my dog goes to a licensed home boarder. Smile

It’s normal to pay in advance. Not normal to take your dog to a boarder who you haven’t met though. Any time we’ve used a dog sitter they want to meet us and our dog, to make sure we’re all (dog sitter included) comfortable.

I would never drop my dog off at someone’s house who I hadn’t met

As a Petbacker pet sitter (I do home boarding not pet sitting)customer needs to pay first to reserve the slot and the pet sitter. After that meet and greet with her dog little talk about her dog. And then I just wait for them to come on booking date. There are customer who's asking for payment upon check out but I send them that Petbacker policy is payment first . They are free to choose someone else if they don't like it.

Our dog sitter invoices us after the stay.

We use two very reputable, well respected local home boarders and pay after collecting. They give us an invoice and I pay within 24 hours.

I live in a small village, it's a few years ago now but when our dog was younger and we were both working we just put an add on the local FB group for a dog sitter and had several lovely retired people apply. He had the same sitter for 4 years and she's still a friend. Completely unregistered but a lovely lady.
Probably not recommended but it worked for us.

We pay at the end of the month
