Family dog getting PTS on Thursday

Beautiful yellow lab who turned 13 yesterday has been struggling for a while but over the last few days has gotten so much worse. She can hardly walk, panting all the time and has stopped eating.

She's had a great life! Been the absolute life and soul of the house and I missed her when I moved in with my now dh.

My dad phoned the vet earlier and they initially said they were fully booked for the week, but have managed to get her in for the injection on Thursday at 5pm. I don't know how I will cope at work that day.

I'm going to drive over tomorrow to say my goodbyes and my mum and dad will be with her for her final moments.

I'm utterly heartbroken, she is honestly the best dog ever - so friendly, never lost the puppy mentality and was always wagging her tail! I think she loves DH more than me as it's always him she greeted when we visit.

I'm gutted she won't be around and I'm trying to take comfort that she's honestly had a great life and lots of pictures and happy memories.

I just wanted to let this all out along with the tears that are stinging my eyes.

Attached a picture of my beautiful wee Bonnie (booboo) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for the last 13 years, sleep easy and enjoy all the unlimited treats over rainbow bridge 🥺

Our beloved rotty went last Pancake Day. We all shared fish and chips on the Monday and her favourite pancakes before she went....

ReginaaPhalange · 29/07/2021 16:41

@wookneecorn she can't walk anymore, she can't crouch to go to the toilet, she's not eating anymore and any treats she does have, she is sick. She's on the highest dose of tramadol a dog can have and she has arthritis. She's literally telling us it's her time to go.

She will be on her way to the vet now 💔

Two lovely friendly ones and two ‘special’ rescue ones from chez Sheldon.

Your Bonnie will not lack for company or entertainment by the sounds of it. Flowers

Hope you are managing x

@SheldonesqueTheBstard I was a complete wreck yesterday, had a fair few wobbles so far today but feel a little bit better now, but I know this will all come in waves!

I've kept some of her fur and I'm going to put it in a wee bag and ask if build a bear will add it to a teddy, but if not, I'll get one and have a friend stitch it in the middle for me to have as a special teddy. I'll take it any trips so she will always be with us on our adventures

That sounds like a lovely thing to do Bear

Beautiful Bonnie- RIP 🐾💐

Honeyroar · 30/07/2021 20:26

I’ve got a friend that makes teddy bears and keepsakes out of dog hair. If you’re on Facebook this is her page. She spins the fur in with other wool.

@Honeyroar I don't have masses of her fur though..... would that matter?

So sorry for your loss. My old girl had to be PTS a few days ago, we brought her ashes home today. The grief is like a physical pain but looking at old photos and talking about her funny ways is helping.

No I don’t think so. She uses a special soft type of wool and adds the pet fur in with it. She’d speak to you about it though. She’s a really nice lady. I used to help out with a dog rescue auction with her.

I'm so sorry for your loss 💔 I lost my old girl just over a week ago, similar circumstances to your lovely Bonnie and I just knew it was time, though I didn't want it to be.

Looking back at old photos and videos from a year or so ago made me realise how much she'd deteriorated recently, that maybe I hadn't realised because I saw her every day and I probably didn't want to either, because I knew I'd have to make that decision.
The vet nodded almost imperceptibly as I took her in and she couldn't stand up by herself, the same vet who's got her through the last year, so knew her. That sealed it for me that I'd made the right decision.
Still absolutely heartbreaking though and I've incorporated her collar into a lovely pic of her and bought a plant for the garden in her memory.
It's one of the biggest responsibilities we have as pet owners - but I truly believe they tell us when it's time, I'm grateful I could do it for her, when they've had a wonderful life with a loving family it's our last act to show them what they mean to us.
💐 For you. Take care.
