7yo male lab - urine killing grass all of a sudden

This isn’t a post about how to fix my lawn!

Our lovely boy is 7 and although he cocks his leg on walks he has always squatted at home on the lawn. Not a problem. But the past few weeks his wees are literally killing patches of our grass. I’m wondering if that’s a change that happens with older dogs or if there’s something wrong?

He certainly doesn’t look as though there’s anything wrong though.

I’ve googled but so far I’ve only come up with lawn solutions and nothing about DDogs.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Mine has always killed the lawn. The only way it doesn't kill it is to use a watering can over it.

Therefore do you think it could just be that his pee is more concentrated? Is he drinking less?

Thanks for replying. I haven’t noticed any obvious changes - but he didn’t used to kill the grass. I have started to water it!

Our last dog (male) was a lawn killer, the current one isn't as bad.

I've heard adding tomato juice to their food helps. I've not put it to the test myself but it might be worth a try. Obviously also make sure he's drinking enough (or eating wet food).

You can buy dog rocks that you put in their water bowl that stops this. I'm pretty sure you can get them from Amazon and Pets at Home.

Could it be some lawn pest like leather jackets/ chaffer bugs?

Maybe take a urine sample in to vets be tested just to check isn't anything wrong with the dog.

Same here since the weather dried out! Without the constant rain to dilute and wash away urine, our lawn looks like a camouflage pattern.

Yes to dog rocks they're amazing!

We have 2 dogs and our lawn actually looks nice.
