Is this a bad method of training a dog (by a trainer)

I think the purpose of the lesson is to teach puppy that if they want something they are to wait nicely and not jump up and grab. So trainer gets out toy (long snake thing) holds in her hands just out of puppy reach. Puppy starts jumping up and frantically trying to get snake. Trainer waits until puppy sits nicely then plays tuggy for a minute or two. Then prises toy out of puppy’s mouth and says thank you - a few times in an authorities voice. then repeats holding toy up and waiting til dog sits nicely and repeats.

Does anyone have knowledge of if this is a recommended method of training? Or is it out of date? I was a bit uncomfortable with prising the toy out the mouth.

Prising out of the mouth is not too be recommended on many levels.

Just pop a treat but the dogs mouth say release command as the dog drops the tuggy for the food.

If the tuggy is more value than the food use a lower value toy to train this or use the amazing Chirag Patel method of teaching drop.

Which is totally stress and frustration free for the dog and owner.

TBH it is a bit high level distraction to go straight to a toy to teach a sit. Much better to reward sit in all locations first and get a default sit behaviour and then add in the distractions.

Ok thanks. Just unsure if we should discontinue using trainer as quite like the other puppies in the class for socialisation
The absolute dogs videos seems to use a similar game with a tuggy where they just insist they get the toy back from the dog at the end of the game. I have never tried it myself as it just fees wrong.
Not heard of the chirag Patel method will look it up

She does already know how to do sit. This is just to teach manners and not grabbing I think
