Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of fluid around the heart?

I'm reposting this as my previous post used the medical term which some people may not recognise.
I'm so worried. She's been to the vets this evening where she had an ultrasound and the fluid was drained. She is being referred as an emergency to a specialist and I should hear from them in the morning. She's resting now but hasn't wanted to eat tonight. Does anyone have any experience of this? Please tell me she'll be ok?

What is the fluid and how did it get there?

In my dog's case I'm afraid it wasn't good at all, but that was because he had a hemangiosarcoma in his heart.

I don't know @loosestrife
She's got a specialist appointment this afternoon so I guess I will know more then.

Wishing you and your dog all the best, @ClingFilmAndGafferTape.

@loosestrife It seems my dog had the same, and I lost her this afternoon. I'm heartbroken.

Oh @ClingFilmAndGafferTape, I'm so sorry. Big hugs to you.

(This happened to my old dog Crosbie back in 2016, and even though we have a new puppy now, I think of him every single day.)

Girlintheframe · 27/05/2021 06:53

I'm so sorry. What a shock for you. Thanks

loosestrife · 28/05/2021 17:22

Thinking of you again today, @ClingFilmAndGafferTape. 💐

ClingFilmAndGafferTape · 29/05/2021 00:30

Thank you for your thoughts @loosestrife I am so sad. Better than yesterday but taking my other dog for a walk and feeding him on his own set me off.

@XelaM she was 10. She was a rescue and had a horrible start in life. I've had her 5 years and she was completely shut down when I got her. Over the last 5 years she's changed completely and had gone from a nervous wreck to a confident, funny, incredibly special girl. Everyone loved her. I'm trying to focus on the better life she had and how happy she was at the end instead of how much I miss her.

Oh, I’m so very sorry, so sudden too. She obviously became very happy with you after such a dreadful start, she sounds lovely.

DinosaurDiana · 29/05/2021 12:54

Just remember that she has no pain, it’s you that has it now.
I dread the day my special girl is no longer here 💐

ClingFilmAndGafferTape · 30/05/2021 00:15

@Darklane and @DinosaurDiana Thank you for your messages. She was a very special girl and I loved her so much. It was all so sudden and with hindsight I wish I had spent more time with her before she was pts. The vet said I could spend as long with her as I wanted but I was just overwhelmed by it all and asked him to do it. I wish I had cuddled her for a bit longer. He said that her suffering would be mine Dinosaur, and I agree with that. I didn't want her to be in pain for a second longer than she needed to be.
I received a lovely card from the vets today with her paw print and some of her fur. It was very comforting to see her beautiful coloured fur and feel like I have part of her back.

How lovely that she had you to love her and even at the end you put her first. We never know how long we will have furry family because they live shorter lives and treatments not the same as us, but she had love and affection so good final years.
