Can anyone offer opinions on this dog food please?

Dog is currently fed MWH utility but very active and slowly loosing weight. We've tried the higher fat food but due to allergies he can't tolerate it.

If he stays on MWH we will need to over feed so thought about maybe trying Eden instead.

Or anything else someone could recommend however food must be purely fish due to allergies.

Thanks all

Why is there an issue with just feeding him more?.... if it suits him, why would you change foods rather than just give him more of it?

Girlintheframe · 22/05/2021 15:24

Just because it's more cost effective not to over feed. Plus volume of food can affect his poo.

Our dog (greyhound) eats Baileys salmon, trout, sweet potato and asparagus. Suits him so well. We had him on pets at home Wainwright's, he had terrible poos, loose and too much. On Baileys it's much firmer and it's a high quality food. I'd recommend.

The 'all about dog food' website is good for comparisons and costing.

Oh and we top it with Forthglade Just meat to keep it interesting and put a little weight on him.

Our 10 month border collie has been on Eden sporting and working fish cuisine since he was a wee pup. He has an allergy to chicken and was very itchy before we switched. Now he’s just perfect, excellent weight/tone and we’re always getting comments on how good his coat condition is. I would highly recommend the food!

I've not heard of Baileys but will have a look thank you.

Good to know pup is thriving on Edens.

I think i will take another look at all about dog food before deciding

Eden’s only got like an extra 20 calories per 100g over the food he’s on, you’d be feeding about the same amount.

Yes I saw that but wondered if the higher protein content might be more beneficial.

I'm kind of at a loss at what to do. At the moment he is slightly over fed and his poo is ok but very slowly loosing weight.

He could do with gaining around 1kg but it's more that I'd rather he didn't loose anymore.

Have you tried extra meals rather than more food in each?

That can be better for digesting it.

cocoloco987 · 23/05/2021 09:11

The amount is just a guide and does need adjusted for individual dogs. If he's not putting on excess weight you aren't over feeding him and it's just the amount he needs. Same with any other animals including humans.

I would speak to MWH. Your dog is on a high carb diet 50/50 which does help some to dogs to put on weight but others burn that off really quickly.

It may be a 70/30 food may be better or a smaller step the 60/40 mixes. However MWH would be the best to advise you and send free samples!
