Out of hours vet fees

I think ddog may need to see a vet before Business Opening Hours on Monday.
Are there any vets who open "normal" hours (by which I mean normal fees) on a Saturday morning? Or are we destined to pay hundreds for an appointment?
Just to be clear, I don't begrudge my beloved pooch treatment. It's just that he's coming up to the £5,000 mark for an ongoing issue (that insurance will only pay part of), so this (unrelated, one-off) thing seems like the last straw (for him, as much as us).

My local vet is open on a Saturday morning, I'm not sure how much help that would be to you though?

Which area?

CallmeHendricks · 14/05/2021 23:41

M25 ish. Different websites say different things. I was wondering whether one option might be to go to a different vet as a one-off. Can you do that? It would have no bearing on the ongoing issue we're having (it's a minor injury).

I’d go to a good pet shop and ask their advice - might be some eg pain relief that you can get over the counter. Our practice does emergencies on Saturday mornings, call yours and see what the deal is. Better to have continuity and access to full medical history at your usual vet rather than another flying blind as it were

Our own vet's website doesn't say it's open on a Saturday morning, yet the emergency guys operate out of their clinic out-of-hours and their website says they start at 12.00 on a Saturday, which could mean my guys are open.
But if they count Saturdays as megabucks time, I'm tempted to try somewhere else that doesn't, if that makes sense.

Most vets are open Saturday mornings

CallmeHendricks · 14/05/2021 23:46

I hope I don't sound mean here. I will of course pay what needs paying if he needs it, but I'm feeling a little battered with all the bills to date (major surgery, but unrelated to current issue).

We use medivet if you have a practice nearby they are usually open 6am to 12noon on a Saturday, otherwise could try vets4pets in pets at home, no experience but hear mixed reviews for them

CallmeHendricks · 14/05/2021 23:48

@VanCleefArpels, That's a good idea to try pet shop. I will phone my vet first thing in the morning and ask what their fees are for a Saturday before I make a decision.
So are Saturday morning "normal" surgeries normal then? I assumed Friday at 7pm was the cut-off.

Vets4Pets are usually open on a Saturday. You might have to pay an emergency fee... I think our charges around £80.- plus treatment, compared to the out of hours which starts at around £150.- ...

CallmeHendricks · 14/05/2021 23:50

Yes, we have a Medivet nearby, but again, their online info is contradictory. One site says they're open 9-5 on a Saturday, another says they're now closed until 9am Monday.

Last year I took my German shepherd to a Medivet on a Sunday evening as we were away and I found them very reasonable and professional . Consultation, medicine x 2 and a cone for his head came to £98. I was also seen within 30min of me initially ringing up.

OK, right thanks all. That's very helpful.

Vets4pets tend to open most of Saturday (9-4 I think for local ones) and sometimes few hours Sunday. The ones in PAH were called companion care I think.

CallmeHendricks · 15/05/2021 09:06

Right all, it appears that contrary to what it says on their own website, our vet is open this morning as normal service.
I've made an appointment for 10am.
Thank you.

Good luck Thanks

CallmeHendricks · 15/05/2021 11:04

All sorted. Normal consultation fee.
He's more comfortable now but it certainly couldn't have waited until Monday.
