I think it’s time, but I’m having last minute doubts that I’m rushing into it.
She’s old and has cancer. It’s so hard to let her go though.

If she is suffering then it's for the best and its probably the kindest thing you will ever do for her.

Think of it as being the vets decision rather than yours. You are, out of love, seeking their advice. That's what they'll advise. It's very hard. Also, it's worth mentioning that you can have the vet come to you to do it at home in some practices. There's a fee but it makes things easier, for you and the dog

It’s never easy. I really feel for you as I had one of my old girls pts last month, cancer too. She was a week off her fourteenth birthday.
You will be gutted, there’s no way round that. I try to think of it as taking away their pain to carry it yourself in being devastated, but it is hard to do, I’m so very sorry.
I miss her like crazy.

Ddog had a suspected brain tumour. A year post cancer surgery in a mammary tumour..
We chose a date and had 2 weeks of Super Ddoggy Time.
She was sedated first-quick sly jab in the bum.

Def def recommend that. Cost a bit extra but didn't matter.. The actual pts she was already out and so saw no meds being put in. Had loads of private time to say good bye. Weren't rushed at all. Very peaceful.. Very very tough call op.. Remember it's the final gift to your beloved ddog - peace.

Better a day too soon than an hour too late. Its the kindest thing we can do for our pets when they're in decline. I'm so sorry.

Our dog was also sedated we couldn't go with him because of covid but he was sedated in his carrier in the car which felt "better".

Dogs live in the moment. Are her moments fun and happy? She won’t know that bad times are compensated for by good times, and she won’t

Sorry. She won’t have any preconceptions about what life may still have in store. If she’s happy most of the time then maybe it’s not her time yet. But if she starts feeling poorly or sad then it’s the kindest decision you can make for her.

Thanks for the solidarity and wise words. It is her time and I know it deep down. She has declined a lot recently and maybe when you’re with them every day you don’t see it.

I had this with my beautiful old lady. I worried so much, how would I know it was the time? My vet had absolute belief I would know. I did. Our love for these adored family members is far greater then our desire to hold them at any cost. It is our greatest gift to spare them pain.

I absolutely agree with the saying better a day early than a moment too late. There is no perfect time, but we are so lucky that we can end the pain and suffering for our pets, unlike for humans.

I lost my little lady to renal failure. Diagnosed on the Friday after severe vomiting and diarrhoea and I had her put to sleep on the Tuesday. I feared the D&V coming back and being uncontrollable, and she hated the vets and this way we could have her with us at home.

Losing them is the worst part, I'm sorry your girl is poorly x

She’s brighter today. Happy to eat chicken, and walking around the garden with us. DH is not happy to make the appointment yet.

I’ve found a vet that will do a home visit when the time comes so I’m happier we’ve got a plan in place.

It’s so hard to decide when is the right day. I don’t want her to suffer, but DH is desperate not to do it too early.
