Staffie bulldog cross?

My friend is a vet and had some puppies left at her practice. They've been checked and vaccinated etc, although obviously she doesn't know anything about their history. We're on the waiting list for a miniature poodle but she's asked if I want to re-home one of the pups before they go to the rescue. She thinks they're probably an English bulldog/staffie mix, with maybe some American bulldog. I'm torn really because I'd rather rescue a dog in need than be snooty about a particular breed, but I'm also not sure whether this would be a suitable dog to live with children (primary age) and a kitten.

From what I've read online bulldogs need firm training with a focus on socialisation with other dogs but then can make good family pets. I took in a staffie before from a friend who went traveling and she was an absolute dream but I didn't have DC or a cat then. Any thoughts?

If you have your heart set on a poodle, I would wait for a poodle to come along.

You could try a breed rescue if you would rather rescue than buy from a breeder.

In my experience, buying from a conscientious breeder (which normally involves a waiting list) gives you the best chance of 'knowing what you are getting' in terms of the dog's temperament, though it can never be guaranteed.

I have an American bulldog cross. He is absolutely wonderful and love him so much. That said 2 of his littermates have been out down and even my dog I can see how strong and also sensitive he is that if he had been abused or whatever previously I wouldn't trust him at all. He is so loyal but could easily be damaged And have become unpredictable.

Thanks @quollaa for reminding me to update this thread! Well, ill advised but we went to visit the pups and ended up taking one of the girls. She's roughly 4 months now according to vet friend, although it's hard to be certain. We also think she's probably more staffie than bulldog. Well aware we might have dodged a bullet here but she seems completely lovely. She gets on well with the kids and the cat and we made a special effort to introduce her to older, well trained dogs as soon as possible. We haven't quite nailed recall yet so she isn't off the lead but she walks really well and doesn't pull. Only time will tell but she's healthy at the moment and we have insurance so that's all I can do really. Wouldn't swap her for some unknown poodle now!!

@Schleckie hey op, just read this post and really glad to see that you took one in. I have this exact breed and honestly she's the loveliest friendliest dog I have ever had. She's amazing with other dogs and the kids. I've always had cockapoos/cocker spaniels and she is better natured all round than either breed. Don't get me wrong the first few months were hard but she's perfect now. Good luck and enjoy her !!

Thanks @ploopypleepy! She's really chilled and calm around the kids, just loves flopping on the sofa and playing ball in the garden. Not sure she's the sharpest knife in the drawer but she's a great addition to the family

Without seeing the parents you have no idea what these puppies could possibly potentially turn out like.

My worry would not be the kids as bully breeds are often very tolerant and people friendly but other dogs.

Dog fighting is still very much a thing and I think dog aggression is still a big problem running through some lines of bully breed.

The other thing I’d be worried about, is if at maturity they grow up to look like pit bulls.
If they fit the look and measurements you could be in trouble if someone complains.
