Does anyone use the dog training bells? For dogs to go outside for the toilet?

Our kitchen door isn't next to the lounge and every time our pup walks out of the lounge I'm following her thinking she wants the toilet.

Sometimes she does, sometimes she is just having a wander or having a drink.

It would be nice for her to tell us she needs to go outside by ringing a bell, but not sure if they work as a training tool?

Has anyone successfully had any luck with them?

I posted this on the wrong thread earlier but over the last few days I put a bell outside of the kitchen door and the dogs really quickly learnt to ring it to get into (they spend more time out than in)the kitchen.

Then I thought I would teach one of the collies to open the door to let the others in when the bell rang. They have had a great couple of days, ringing the bell the oldie lets them in. They go out again door shut and it goes on again and again and again. Automatic treat dispensers have a lot to answer too!

Bell is now hidden but the dogs had a great time Smile

@PollyPolson - what a lovely story about your dogs! Our late ddog2 could have let ddog1 or the cat in - she was very bright and could open doors. Sadly we lost her in January, and ddog1 is a brown lab with a room temperature IQ who can’t let herself back in if the door is partly ajar and all she needs to do is push.

This is her, enjoying the warmth in the conservatory and showing what a hard life she has!

My boy trained himself/us, we leave keys in the lock, and he would jump up and jangle them to be let out. So I added an old cowbell we had on an s-hook to the keys when we are in of an evening to make it easier for him and less likely to damage anything. He did go through a phase of ringing the bell, us letting him out, and him coming straight back in again and sitting next to treat jar (he gets a treat when he comes in from from the yard) but we nipped that in the bud quickly! Treats only for after business!

We’re moving to a much bigger place and planning to put the bell up for him there too.
