Would you let a dog move household?

I have three house dogs.

My mum is really starting to struggle mentally. She doesn't have a dog as she used to be travelling and at theatre a lot. She's lonely and I'm worried.

I am tentatively considering taking one of my dogs and dropping her in secure back garden. She would stay for rest of lock down. Mum has had her before when I had Dd and adores her.

Is this a silly idea?

We are rural and mum does her walk a day plus huge garden. It's more company I'm thinking about.

I absolutely would. Sometimes mental health trumps isolation. How big is said dog? Small enough to be wrapped in a towel and given a bath as soon as she arrives just as a precaution?

Yes small parson terrier. Very cuddly and gentle. I rehomed her from show friend after she retired from showing age six. Meshes the sort of dream dog. Just easy. Unlike my other two monsters.

I can drive along the back road, Carry bed, food etc and drop it over fence. Then pop dog over.

She's been on farm for months so risk wise it's probably more when she comes back as she will be going to small village from remote farm.

Sounds a great idea, my son was just saying that the current situation would be much worse if we didn’t have our dog, and that’s with 3 of us at home. Your dog will just enjoy her 121 holiday with your mum

Yes sounds like a brilliant idea. Animals are very therapeutic to the mind, stroking them is very good for wellbeing

Sounds like a great plan. If it wouldn't leave me dog-less I'd consider doing the same for DDog and my DF.

Yes I still would have two. I couldn't manage without a dog either.

I go to the village every second Saturday to collect butcher meat and veg box, so that would be this Saturday anyway. My fortnightly outing.

Sounds perfect op, and if it helps your mum then it’s a win-win all round.

Great idea providing your mum could manage to buy her food and get her to the vet if anything happened to her. But that’s the worst case scenario, I know

Fair points. I get food delivered online so was going to leave a massive bag which would do four weeks worst case.

If she needed a vet mum can drive and vet is closer to her, but would mean her having to go out. So yes that is a factor.

It’s a lovely idea and sounds as if it would be of great benefit to your mum. I would do it.

I think it's a great idea, I hope your mum feels better soon.
As the owner of a normal sized jrt I just can't imagine a calm one, but mine is lovely company all the same.

My mum was down the other week so I walked to her house with my dogs, wiped down my little dog with sanitizer wipes and let her go and cuddle my mum for 10 mins while I sat across the courtyard and had a chat. Mum washed her hands after. I’m doing my best not to go near her, but sometimes have to juggle things a bit to stop her cracking up. We struggled with her depression last year and I’m trying to avoid that.

We do this with our dog! The in laws have a much bigger garden than us and he's a small dog so the garden is adequate to run around in without needing a walk, so when DH drops their shopping off, he takes the dog and he just runs from the car into their house - job done! They're isolating and love having him around to play with in lieu of DD!

Yes I could send more food.

Spoken to mum and she cried. She's delighted and off to get sorted. She said she has cleared out a cupboard and has tonnes of cosy blankets so will use those.

Dog is a strange girl. She acts like an old lady. Sort of watches the others play with a wise eye. Loves the other two but also loves humans so won't miss them at all if getting cuddles.

Aw that is lovely op, and it’s so good for your mum too.
