What’s going to happen to all the puppies?

Due to pick up a puppy today - got a call saying the vet has cancelled the appointment to do vaccinations. Puppy will be staying put until vaccinations are going again in a house with two elderly people who are social isolating. So no interaction of the puppies with cars, people, children etc etc. Is it wrong to think by the time this is over those puppies will only be fit to be put down? It’ll be too high risk to take one if they are going to be around young children. And the same will be happening all across the country.. it’s very sad.

As ever, those bred by good breeders will have excellent care, socialisation as far as possible in the circumstances, be separated off a bit to start developing individually.

Those bred by poor breeders will have a very sorry life, and will be unsocialised nightmares.

Those bred by puppy farms will probably be knocked on the head as they are go past being cute and saleable, wouldn't want to waste money feeding them at that stage - particularly as there will be other bitches brewing litters. Anyone who thinks this is emotive and unrealistic hasn't looked in to puppy farming properly.

I got my dog at 8 months old and he had gone from a puppy farm to a rescue without ever living in a house or around children or cars. He’s not risky at all, let alone so risky he needs shooting.
Puppy farmed puppies will likely be killed, but because they are no longer cute enough to sell rather than they are risky. Although are the people who buy and sell puppy farmed puppies really going to give a shit about social distancing advice and vaccinations?

Tbh I think a lot of even rescues will be pts, not because they are dangerous but because the rescues just won’t be able to sustain looking after them for an indeterminate amount of time.

A lot of people will be cancelling their direct debits due to job losses etc and all fundraising will have to be cancelled for the foreseeable future.

I bet rescues will be gaining a bucketload of badly matted Poodle crosses too, now people can't get near groomers for however many months.

The rescues I follow and have volunteered at have called in extra foster carers and some live on site so are still tending to all the dogs they have. Obviously, they can't take on anymore and I haven't seen any reports of dogs being dumped on their doorsteps.

The breeder who I got my dog from had a pregnant bitch at the moment. She’ll have the entire litter as her family pets. She loves them.

Really good breeders breed rarely. They won’t be flooded with litters and litters. They will do as much as is humanly possible to get those pups used to different sights and sounds. They can begin toilet training or getting pups used to a lead.
TBH I want my dog to mostly ignore strangers so that wouldn’t bother me!
Good breeders will hold on.
Bad breeders? They won’t bother to take them to the vets to PTS.

I foster puppies for a rescue, and some of mine have been in a shed for 6 months or more, and not with good human interactions either. You'd be amazed how quickly the vast majority of them adjust with love and time.
I don't doubt we will get a lot of dogs dumped when we come out of lockdown, but it won't be from the bad breeders (their pups never see the light of day), it will be the dicks who thought getting a puppy would be fun while they were at home, or who are now bored

Well hopefully breeders will stop breeding for a while and their focus will switch to socialising and raising those puppies they have. They're probably better placed to do this than most new puppy owners.

You shouldn't be picking up a new puppy at this time OP. And reputable breeders have been told by the kennel club not to release them to new owners at this time.
