Am I ‘spoiling’ puppy by letting him sleep on me?

He can settle in his pen, he whines for a bit but then will go to sleep in his bed. He doesn’t go into a deep sleep though so I’m getting into the habit of letting him sleep on my knee in the afternoon for a couple of hours. I really don’t mind this at all as I don’t do much in the afternoons mid-week.

Am I setting myself up for problems in the future though? He does sleep on his own during the night (in his pen and uses a puppy pad) and I’ll carry on making sure he has at least one nap during the day in his pen.

So the answer is no. A puppy on your lap is one of life’s greatest pleasures!

That is where they are meant to sleep. Whether they are 15 days old or 15 years old. Other places are not the same.

So letting him sleep on me won’t stop him sleeping on his own at night or settling when I’m (eventually) at work?

I did this with DS and it took years to get him into his own bed!!

Just like having a baby on your knee, it's building bonds that will last a lifetime. Enjoy.

If I start moving towards a chair, Ddog starts hovering expectantly, and climbs up as I lower myself

I think I’ve been so amazed that he sleeps through the night without a peep I’m terrified of undoing it.

I have to leave him every morning to do the school run. I’ve been filming him while I’m gone to see what he’s up to. My plan is to gradually increase this time over the next 2 months as he’ll need to be left for 2 hours and then eventually 3 so I’ll always do that.

Damn it, my phone batteries about to die and I’m pinned!

He's fine to sleep anywhere. The issue is when you ask him to get down and he doesn't. Just remind him it's your bed once in a while. Puppies overstep as they forget. Dogs just know.

When he was younger he slept with his mother and the rest of the litter. I’m sure he needs cuddles. I think it’s lovely he sleeps on your knees.

We re did our kitchen unexpectedly when dp (puppy) arrived and we popped her in with dd..now she (dp) goes from bed to bed. She ll sleep downstairs but barks at 6.to come up.
When we want a lie in she comes to our bed...omg we all love her
