How to stop a long dog licking

My dachshund has in the last couple of days developed a problem with a sort of vascular warty thing on his undercarriage which started bleeding.

We've had him in a 'collar of shame' but he's so long and flexible that it's not stopping him getting to the area and he started it bleeding again.

Do we need a ginormous cone or are there other effective solutions?

I tend to cover up the bit they want to lick/nibble instead. Depending on dog size and area that needs covering, a babygrow, t shirt (use a hair bobble to gather up excess) or a pair of pants with strategic holes can all work

I think you need to take him to the vet and find out exactly what is causing the problem.

We've been to the vet, who wasn't worried about the warty thing itself. Tbh now the dog knows it's there I think he's going to continually pester it if he can so it may need removing but I'd guess it's probably not by itself something you'd give a 13 yo dog a GA for. That's why we need an effective way to manage the problem - it bled quite profusely the first time, fortuitously not on the soft furnishings.

I shall try improvising coverings, though I'm dubious I can come up with something he can't remove but I can get on and off for him to widdle etc. (It's on his willy sheath.)

(To clarify, the warty thing isn't new, it's the dog making it bleed which is recent. )

Sorry not funny. Ddog had one which was removed under other surgery. Now one has grown on her toe but luckily it's been ignored so far.
Could you dab it with something not tasty as a deterant?
Beetroot juice maybe??

I have a Skye terrier, very long, low & hairy, big dog on short legs. When she had a operation on her tummy the vet gave me a sort of dog baby grow which was far more effective than those collars. Being low she’d have been bumping one of those on the ground & tripping over it. Perhaps your vet could have one.

We had to go with a huge cone of shame as body suits didn’t have rear legs. Plus he ate it. The first inflatable cone wasn’t big enough.

You can get pants for when female dogs go into heat. I’ve seen lots of dachshunds in them. Would a covering like that be worth trying?

The one I have has rear legs it fastens with press studs.

What about some vet wrap you can buy it on amazon might give it time to heal

Get a baby's bodysuit of the right size and cut a hole for the tail. This will then cover the whole area that you don't want them biting and scratching.

You can also buy special dog bodysuits from your vets which are basically the same.
