There’s a farm which my Dad works on that has a litter of puppies. I’ve fallen in love with the little runt of the litter but I’m wondering what I’d be taking on. I’m going to do lots of research before making the decision but does anyone have any first hand experience?

So my mum and sis got a cross jack russell, springer last year, so it’s 10 months old now. It was got as my sister likes to go for runs and my brother has allergies.the dog has become quite a problem, it just hasn’t learnt any obedience, jumps up at people constantly and chews everything, including tryin* to break my thumbs off my hand.
What do we need to do? What kind of exercise does it need, what food should it be eating? It’s just my sister who part owns it is now pregnantand is moving out and I now maybe moving in but it’s caus8ng issues as it favours me whilst I’m there but it’s not my dog.
Any any any help oir suggestions would be much appreciated, he is stunning , very strong, and most time really good , this morning he actually let my 3yr old nephew walk him round the house on his lead, but then when outside he was nipping at my brother in laws legs to play wit( him even though he was the one who wouldn’t drop his ball!!!

Wow just saw your photos of your pup at 11 months and that answers a lot. I purchased what was supposed to be a Sprocker spaniel about 5 years ago and he has grown to look nothing like a springer or cocker. And going off the pics you have of your JRT/Spaniel cross, I think it’s safe to say that’s exactly what mine must be. I’ve seen similar looking dogs but never quite the same.

LaraLovesMiloTheJackcockermix · 22/08/2023 07:39

if you're getting toys get teething toys and a teddy one
This will help

LaraLovesMiloTheJackcockermix · 22/08/2023 07:41

I don't know if its just my dog but he always gets excited when you come back down stairs after like 20-30 mins

LaraLovesMiloTheJackcockermix · 22/08/2023 07:42

I got one exactly like that

larryhayes · 28/09/2024 20:39

we have just adopted a rescue dog that we think may be a cocker jack, but we're not sure. Please tell me what you think?

why a cocker?

good question, it could be a springer cross. We though cocker because she's very small and the rescue centre said "spaniel cross of some kind"

tabulahrasa · 29/09/2024 16:57

That looks like a dachshund face rather than jack Russel to me anyway…. And I’d have assumed springer from the markings rather than cocker

I have a jrt cross, who looked similar when he was a puppy.

The benefits are;

Really easy to train as he's so clever, he knows loads of tricks, picked up toilet training really quickly etc

Loves to play, would play all day

Loves people and kids, once he's decided you're a friend he will be very loyal and affectionate.

We do agility and hoopers with him and he's very good at both.

Very good out and about, can take him anywhere.

Very good in the house, never has issues with chewing or being destructive.

Negatives.

Not great with other dogs, he's stand off ish with most dogs and can be reactive to some.

Needs two decent length walks a day otherwise he's bouncing off the walls a bit.

Can be a bit barky in the garden although we manage this by bringing him straight in.
