Pet insurance vet fees limit

Is £4K enough for vet fees?
We're looking at pet plan's covered for life and can't decide if we should pay extra for £7k cover.

I have the £4k and I wish I had picked the £7k because we have claimed nearly £5000 and he is only just 3 years old.

At one point we were looking at an operation that would have been at least £5000 but fortunately we didn't need it in the end.

Having seen first hand how quickly £4000 can disappear I would pick the £7000.

No I dont think £4K is enough

We paid for the highest level of PetPlan cover for our rescue dog, and were very glad we had, when she needed three orthopaedic operations on her knees within a year, and had a gastric ulcer - all the operations, the consultations and x-rays and drugs etc added up to a shade over £10,000, and PerPlan paid it all, without a murmur, apart from the special food she needed after the ulcer (which we thought was fair enough).

The cover she’s on goes up to £10K a year, and we wouldn’t change that.

I would advise going for the most cover you can afford.

Thank you. We'll go for the £7k then to be safe.

I use Bought by Many as Pet Plan was too expensive. They have £15k cover and paid out no problem when I claimed for my cat

BayandBlonde · 12/10/2019 19:53

Interestingly 4-5k per claim for my horses (and all of them before that) is more than enough. And they are 15 times the size!

However, I have found it would be nowhere near enough for a dog Confused

We are with more than on their lifetime cover after a bad experience with petplan. They cover up to £12,000 per year and the customer service is good.

We have 10k per year cover with Tesco - it covers dental any referral treatment needed.

4K is definitely not enough.

Its interesting seeing how much others have used their insurance

£4K would have been more than enough for my last 5 dogs we have never (yet ) gone over that amount - it is a risk we are prepared t take it may not be one you wish to.
