Dealing with incontinence in older dogs?

I have a 13 year old lurcher, we've had her for 7 years (rescue) she's very timid and while she loves going for walks, dislikes being in the garden and follows a wide circle loop in the garden, she does toilet in the garden but we have to shut the door and watch otherwise she'll come back in without going. We've tried everything we can think of to break this behaviour but nothing has ever worked so we just deal with it.
Over the last 4 months or so, she's started weeing in the house overnight.
We make sure she goes out just before we go to bed (approx midnight) and then first thing (usually about 7am but sometimes earlier) but often she's already been (on the rug in the lounge) at some point in the night.
Does anyone have any idea how to deal with this? Is it worth putting puppy pads down to protect the rug and the floor or would that further encourage the behaviour? And are puppy pads even able to hold the amount of liquid from and adult dog?

My dsis has an incontinent 17 yr old dog , when she goes out she takes up any rugs that can’t be washed and at all times she has puppy pads underneath a throw on the sofas as the dog pees in its sleep . Incontinent elderly dogs are what puppy pads should be used for .

It is worth getting her checked by your vet there are quite a few medical conditions that can cause this which can be treated.

Thanks, I'll certainly get some puppy pads then. I have had her checked by the vet and they can't seem to find anything specific other than she's old.

I'm looking at dog diapers but can't decide if they will hold enough to keep my dog dry as he's diabetic and peeing loads!!

Our vet gave us Incurin when our old girl started to be a bit leaky and it lived up top its name and completely cured the problem within literally about two days.

We’ve tried that and it didn’t work but I think the dog is half incontinent and half too idle to bother to go out and my sisters attitude is at the age she is she can basically do what she wants ( she’s already lost the dogs brother this year ) . Suffice to say that the washing machine works overtime !

Dog nappies are good, but be sure to get the right ones for Male and female dogs. The belly bands are good for males and there are female ones too. Buy a few reusable ones and wash them as they are much sturdier than disposables.

I would get this checked.

My 15 year old dog started doing this and weeing in her sleep and I assumed old age incontinence. As she had no other signs.

Took her to the vet as I was uncomfortable with her having accidents while sleeping as it just didn't feel right and she has stage kidney disease.

Thanks everyone, I took her back to the vet this morning as I noticed blood in her urine last night, she's got antibiotics for a suspected uti
Poor girl. But hopefully it'll clear up soon.

Hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick.
