help dog had got grass seed in his eye, panicking and need advice

Took ddog for walk in long grass yesterday evenings, where we walked was very long grass and my shoes were filled with seeds, so I gave him a bit of a brush down.

But later I noticed he couldn't open his eye so I did use some saline solution to wash it a bit that seemed to help.

This morning it's still closed and when I go to check it out he grows now, do it must be hurting now when I go to check it out.

My vets shut last month and I didn't think to dirt anything out.

Now I'm in a bit of a panic as it's Sunday and I don't quite know what to do.

Im also totally skint ATM, I'm in debt and only have £20 for the next week until payday.

I've found a local RSPCA and PDSA clinics plus another vets nearby.

What the hell do I do?

He's not in constant pain, it doesn't seem to be annoying him massively other than he won't open his eyes , he's happy to go out for another walk and he's ok being cuddled.

I'm going to text a friend and ask who their vet is a bit later on.

If it was me with something in my eye that wasn't bothering me that much other than i wanted to keep it closed, I wouldn't be that fussed going to a doctor.

But this is ddog, and he can't speak and I don't know what to do.

Sorry but you need to get it checked out. My cat got a thorn stuck in her eye and would have lost the eye without surgery. The fact that you are skint doesn't mean you can ignore it. Good luck I hope DDog is OK.

He needs a vet, could cause more damage if left! Have you got insurance?

Vet here! You have to go to the vet. Eye closed means painful, growling means very painful! He could lose his eye if it's not removed. It could be a grass seed stuck in it, or could be a deep scratch/ulcer - either way his eye is at risk. You must go today!

Google local vets and ring their emergency numbers. They may consider a payment plan if you really have no funds.

He needs to be seen ASAP. You may be able to settle up the bill next week. If you leave it you’re risking him losing his eye.

When this is all sorted get insurance as a matter of urgency. This is the exact sort of problem that it would cover and you wouldn’t be worrying at all, apart from covering the excess.

Can people not read? OP has no money. She needs information about where the dog can be treated at no cost.

No point in saying she has to see a vet when she can't pay for one - tell her where the free treatment is.

He needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. Do you have a credit card you could use then do a 0% balance transfer and pay it off over a few months?

There isn’t free treatment. Which is why responsible owners get insurance or have savings for such events.

Do you have a pets at home anywhere near? The vets In there are open on Sundays...maybe they would allow you to spread the cost?

Vet care is private medical care. There is no NHS for pets which is why you need to be able to afford thousands or have insurance.

However, some places will do free care if you qualify and live within a catchment area like the pdsa etc.

OP your dog needs to see the emergency vets otherwise like PP has said you risk far more injury (and money). I've found a local RSPCA and PDSA clinics plus another vets nearby. Phone both the RSPCA and PDSA and explain the situation (both dog symptoms and financial situation). Failing that can someone sub you the money?

My dog had two grass seeds removed from her ear last week, she has a bad infection in her ear as a result.

Hopefully you will find a vet which will allow you to spread the cost.

You absolutely have to get him to a vet today. Had the same with my dog and it’s not something you can leave or treat yourself.

And get your dog registered with a new vet fgs.

Do Pets at Home vets open on a Sunday? Not free but might save you the weekend call out fee.

Agree with other poster he needs to be seen today, if you leave it it could get worse, more pain, risk his eye and cost much more.

So you have family you can borrow from?

The best I've been able to do us ring a friend who will take and pay for ddog tomorrow at her vet, then I pay back.

That's the best I've been able to achieve

Well that's really good op. Well done. These things always seem to happen on a weekend when vet surgeries are shut and an emergency vet can cost a couple of hundred.

But you said you had a local PDSA - did you try them? If not give them a ring and see if they will treat today for no charge.
