What Millie’s wolfheart food for Labrador puppy?

Have a 7 month Labrador puppy and am looking to switch her over to Millie’s wolfheart but am wondering which food would be best. I have filled the which food calculator thing on the website and it recommended different 60/40 foods- is that high enough meat content?

She also gets around 1.5-2 hours of off lead walks a day (with lots of running in these walks)

We started with millies when our lab was still a pup and had loose poos and dreadful wind. We started with riverside and there was an improvement but then tried countryside and the difference was amazing (I even like the smell of the food!). We think some fish doesn't suit him but the good thing will millies is they are all grain free but there are different protien sources to try until you find the right on.

We then got salmon & veg which, at the time they have since changed the formula, was very rich but we successfully mixed 2-1 with the countryside.

He now users 3-4 different recipes mixed with the salmon.

If you are unsure phone their nutrition helpline, they are very helpful.

Call them, they are very helpful.

Don't mean to be rude but isn't that an awful lot of exercise for a puppy - rap a lab with potential hip probs?

Elizabetty · 15/06/2019 18:42

overtheweather I thought the guidance was around 6 minutes per month of age so at 7 months that would be close to 1.5 hrs a day (admittedly the extra half hour that happens occasionally is unnecessary)? But if that’s wrong please do let me know as don’t want to put her to any harm.

6 * 7 = 42 mins (although I always thought it was 5 mins so 35 mins).

Big difference between that and 90 - 120 mins... Although its a long time since mine was a pup but worth reading up on

Elizabetty · 15/06/2019 18:56

brokenwings oh god I always assumed that was length per walk not per day. Should I go about it by gradually reducing the length of time until I’m at the recommended?

Millies calculator for which food to give to you dog

Reduce exercise immediately do not do it gradually but up the brain games and training as this will use up a lot of energy

OverFedStanley · 15/06/2019 19:22

sorry see you had used the calculator - if that is what it says go with it or phone them.

I feed Canagans, and my lab is wind free and has as pleasant a poo as you could hope for. I think it’s around 60% on the various meats. I agree with OverTheWeather that too much exercise at that age, especially with lots of running, can lead to issues when they are growing so much at that age.

Countryside mix is the best I've found personally for pups.
It's what they recommended when my lab was a pup and although I do change sometimes for variety,I've now stuck with Countryside as like a Pp noticed, they just seem better on it .

I've 4 on it & they are all in top top condition.

Be careful with the amount of exercise, maybe swap some of the offlead runs for training to keep up the stimulation, without the risk of joint damage.

Glad I didn't offend. Sorry, that was meant to say 'esp a lab with potential hip probs?'. I also thought it was 5 mins per month.

I was told sniffing games is really good for them (10 mins = 1hr walk for tiring them) - so I often sprinkle kibble in the garden. Also, I think I worried too much about keeping Nour working type dogs stimulated - our dog trainer is big on them resting and relaxing and talks about 16 hours of sleep a day and lots of chew toys and likimats.

Your pup must have thought he was the luckiest puppy in the world. Obviously, without a picture it's difficult to advise Wink
