Help! Do I need to get to an emergency vet?

DDog (3 year old spaniel) has never been ill before so not sure how to gauge this and Google is giving me conflicting views. She was sick late this afternoon (she has thrown up before after eating too fast/too much) so wasn't unduly worried. Popped out for a couple of hours and when I got back DD said she'd been sick a couple more times but more bile/foam. I kept an eye on her between about 7-9 this evening and she threw up bile about six times. In between throwing up she would lie on the sofa, seems lethargic and is quite trembly.

So far she hasn't thrown up for about an hour - the longest she's gone so far - but she is still definitely not herself and still quite shaky to touch.

She couldn't have eaten chocolate or raisins/grapes but DH thinks she might have had a small piece of Brie that she snaffled earlier. Also she runs around a lot on her walks which is in a huge park with a lot of nature - foxes/deer/rabbits etc so could have picked up something and eaten without us seeing.

As I type this, she is lying next to be dozing and I am hoping that the worst has passed but she is definitely lethargic and a bit shaky.

Vet or wait and see how she is in the morning? Honestly have no idea? Vet would be a pantomime to get to (would have to get small DC out of bed etc) and I imagine v. expensive, but this is DDog - so if it's am emergency, of course I will go. Trembling and lethargy could be explained by just feeling sick and being sick but equally google suggests could be symptoms of something worse... Any advice welcome. And thank you.

I would phone your emergency vet for advice, but they will probably suggest taking her in. TBH I would if it was one of mine. Hope she's ok Flowers

Yes emergency vets ,vomiting bile is not good

How is she now OP? Hopefully feeling better. I have found it difficult to tell if it's necessary to dash to emergency vets or if I am being ott. Have had experiences where I haven't and it was necessary and vice versa. I have two spaniels, one recently had similar symptoms to what you describe, whilst at the vets figured out he had had a drink from the bucket I was using to mop the floor when I was distracted, he has previous which includes eating peaches and their stones requiring emergency surgery, far too many rotting inapples in a copse on his walk which as the vet described left him very inebriated and hangover. I swear he is part Labrador.

Yes phone vets for advice tonight, vomiting is always treated quite seriously in dogs as opposed to diarrhoea.

Hope ddog is ok, ours is ill too 😕 we've had sick and upset tummy for two days which I'm really hoping is settling down. I honestly thought we were going to emergency vet this morning.

Do her gums look pale? Our spaniel had these symptoms a couple of years ago and it turned out he had hepatitis. He ended up in a specialist hospital for a week.

Have called the vet and spoken to the receptionist - she will speak to the vet and he will call me back at some point... She did, unsuprisingly, say that it might be worth brining her in to be on the safe side.

I am torn. She is the most settled she has been since this afternoon. Sleeping properly rather than floppy with gentle snoring. She is also not trembling at the moment. And if I do go, it will mean getting two dc out of bed and dragging them out into the night.

I want the vet to tell me not to worry :( Poor DDog.

Where do you live? Has the dog had any fits or seizures? I’ve just read about two ESS that were poisoned in Wales.

Our vet is usually happy to ask questions and then base advice and reassurance on my responses. She definitely doesn't always suggest bringing our dogs in.

They aren't just out to bill you the most they can.Well ours certainly isn't anyway.

No. Nowhere near Wales.

But she has just been sick again. I'm going to take her in I think.

Problem is that the vet can't really give much reassurance over the phone :( so chances are they will tell you to go in anyway, unless by the time he phones back your dog has settled a bit more. I guess it's not like phoning NHS 24 and describing all your own symptoms, as your dog can't tell you they've ate xyz and now feel pain here and there (if only though!).

Hope all is ok and they make a speedy recovery.

Has she managed to drink any water? Normally for initial sickness/diarrhea we would fast, ensure access to plenty of water and reassess in 12 hours but if she's lethargic so quickly I'd take her in tbh

To be honest, I wouldn't take her after just 8 hours of vomiting. Our dog also gets into everything and we have a vomit session every 6 months or so. Unless it goes on for more than 24 hours, we never consider taking her. Try to encourage water drinking if possible.

Just back from Vet.

He said she wasn't severely hydrated but was definitely vomiting more than she was drinking. He agreed she was lethargic and a bit trembly. He checked her gums/eyes/temp/tummy etc. She was quite tender underneath but he thought that could have been down to the endless vomiting. Anti sickness jab, pain killer for tenderness and antiacid medication. She can't have any water for two hours (as it was inducing the vomiting) until the anti-sickness jab has kicked in, but apart from that just keep an eye on her and bring her back from a more thorough examination if things don't improve.

£££ but hopefully most back on insurance and don't regret taking her for a minute. I just hope she is better tomorrow and that he didn't miss anything. No reason to think he did, just love love love her so much.

Thanks for encouraging me to go - she probably would have been ok on this occasion, but hopefully the meds mean she'll be feeling a hell of a lot better quicker. And vet did agree that foamy vomit over and over does need to be seen.

Hmmm. She has just been out for a poo and has stinky diarrhoea now. And it's a strange colour. Pinky brown although it doesn't look like blood - just an odd colour. Could this be the jabs? I'm not usually such a worrier but she is still drooling and just not as perky as she was when we first got back.

She is in the garden and doesn't want to come in.
