Teenage dog smell?

BastardPup is almost 8 months old and going through a teenage phase - temporary deafness, discovered his voice, balls have dropped etc. I can deal with that, but he bloody stinks. Proper full on sweaty dog smell. Other than bathing, can I do anything? Is this normal? And does it pass? please say it does-

Change his food? I thought if a dog was stinky it was their food disagreeing with them.

Don't think I noticed any difference in smell. Have you got close to sniff his ears, mouth and other parts of his body to see if the smell is actually coming from a particular area?

Mine never smelt any different.

Are you sure it's not an infection from anywhere? Have you had a good sniff of his mouth, teeth, ears, feet etc to make sure?

Dogs only sweat from their feet and if you are in UK winter I’d be surprised your dog is sweating at all at present! None of mine are even with lots of exercise. Fear can make a dog have sweaty paws?
Otherwise a good bath with a decent hypoallergenic deodorising shampoo and if that doesn’t sort him out id be getting him looked at to check no anal gland issue/ infection etc.

Our dog developed teenage stink - it was mostly to do with peeing down the back of his own front legs. He started cocking his leg, but his aim is shite. He still has shite aim, but tends to lick the piss off himself now, so stinks less (boak)

He is having a bath tomorrow - got a session booked in an enclosed field where he will get filthy, so he will be coming back into warm water.

Maybe he just needs a more regular wash.

My dog didn't change smell. He's a bit farty sometimes but that's not new. He gets brushed every day and a bath about once a month/six weeks. He's a Labrador/lurcher type.

@YoureAllABunchOfBastards how did this all unravel for you?? We have the same problem now-hence I found your old post!!! We have an 8month old German pointer and his coat is very oily. Be interested to know what happened for you.

If the dog is entire I think there is a hormonal smell, their hormones peak around 12 months depending on the dog and imo it definitely affects their smell. There was a sort of sour/rankness to our pup at this age.

Fortunately it went away as his hormones settled down! Our dog just smells faintly doggy now and is still entire.
