I'm am so mad at my dog

I can't train her. She's 6 months old and just doesn't get it.

Just had an hour in the park and she wouldn't piss.

Just wouldn't.

I stood outside with her in the garden getting home and she wouldn't piss.

I let her in the house.

Runs straight in the kitchen and pisses

I am livid.

No that's not right I am defeated. I just want to cry.

I AM SICK TO FUCKING DEATHE OF CLEANING UP PISS.

4 months of it now and she just won't go outside

Take a deep breath as it's bloody hard work in the first year I found and it doesn't help when everyone around you looks like they have the perfect dog they often don't.

6 months was the age mine started to exhibit teenage deafness which didn't help training so you might have that to contend with as well.

What I would do with the toileting in your situation is go completely back to basics. Supervise at all times (tether her to you if needed) and if she looks like she might pee then straight outside and praise and also try and introduce a key word so she starts associating peeing with that word or phrase.

I've done that since 8 weeks.

Take her outside and if she did a wee I would say 'wee wee! Wee wee!' Then lots of good girls!! Praise praise praise.

But over time it's gotten worse. To where I can't praise her cause she won't do it outside.

She's even pissed up on the couch on my cushions!!

Would also add that if you're taking her outside for pee but then getting frustrated and cross she's not doing what you need to do - she's going to notice that frustration and it will make her wonder what on earth is going on, she only relaxes for peetime when she's back in the safety of her house, hence peeing in the kitchen.

When you're outside with her what are you doing with her? Just waiting or playing?

I try not to get frustrated outside. I just say 'wee wee. Do a wee wee' in my dog talk voice.

If we are back from a walk she is off lead in garden but she just LOVES to dig in the garden so that distracts her

So I usually put her on a lead for toilet because she is a spaniel and just wants to smell/dig/chew everything so being on the lead makes her more focused? I guess

Back to basics - she stays with you or in her crate all the time, and you take her out every 30 minutes on the lead and stand there using your key word for 5 minutes, and if she wees you reward her greatly with praise and a special toy or treat food. And keep repeating.

It sounds like she does get it, in that she is able to hold her wee, she is just choosing not to use the garden. Does she always wee in the kitchen?

Is she motivated by food? If so, I would treat any wee outside and ignore any indoor wee. Spaniels are bright and will put two and two together.

I wonder if the 'wee wee, wee wee' isn't quite a clear command iykwim. I would be tempted to change that to a clearer shorter one like 'get busy', 'go potty' type and just once. Then after she has finished praise her.

When she goes in the house is she small enough to pick up as I would be doing a pick up and dash outside each time she went inside so she knows she shouldn't be doing it there. If she is tethered to you then you should be able to see her go and she can't run off and piss.

And lastly are you cleaning it all up inside using enzyme cleaner?

FaerieQueene has a point, are you managing to ignore the indoor wees or getting frustrated and cross about it? If you are acknowledging the behaviour, even out of frustration, that can be enough of a "reward" for the dog. It needs to be a complete emotionless silent ignoring of the dog whilst it's cleaned up.

Also the frustration means you are probably in the 'I have tried everything and it isn't working' stage. That's when I find its best to take a step back and think right let's start again but also what am I going to tweak to work around what's happening.

So a couple of options as mentioned from PP, no lead in the garden and supervise until she does go, change the command so it's simple and clear, tether inside so she can't run off until she starts going outside, enzyme cleaners if you don't already, pick up mid stream and pop outside and praise when she finishes etc.

If she maybe doesn't like weeing on the lead, but will beggar about in the garden, you could fence off a bit of the garden and then put her in there to toilet?

My pup is almost 11 months old and still wees indoors occasionally and all the time when it's raining 🙄 up until he was about 6 months old he just did not understand weeing outside! (He's a sausage dog) I was going round the bend with cleaning up wee but it does get better 😊
My older dog who is now 3 was toilet trained at 9 weeks and never has accidents indoors! It all depends on the dog.

Have you taken or go to a dog training group? I found they where really great for advice about all issues and concerns about my puppy as they know your dog and they have so much experience.

What do you use to clean up the mess? Does your dog always pee in the same spots?

Agree with BiteyShark about picking her up while she's weeing indoors and taking her straight outside - that way there's no benefit from doing it indoors as she still has to go outside anyway.

Also whatever phrase you use to try to get her to go, also say it while she's weeing indoors as she might have forgotten it and you may need to associate the word with the action again - spaniels are quick to learn but can forget quickly too! No praise for going inside, just the words 'have a wee' or whatever you use.
