When did it all "click into place" if you found your puppy hard?

If you got your puppy and struggled especially with the night time crying etc and the shock of how hard it is, what age was your dog when it all seemed to turn a corner?

Similar to the new born shock to the system haha and the suddenly your in the swing of it and your baby sleeps and everything feels much more manageable.

About 6 mths old. Between 9 wks and then I'd have given him away to anyone who wanted him!

At around 5-6 months things got better from a puppy point of view but then we went straight into teenage hell. Finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel around 1 year of age.

Bloody love him now but boy was it hard at first.

Mine was 9 months when fully, cast iron toilet trained (Terrier, small bladder).

She was with me 24 hours a day apart from 6 hours a week when I was working. I was completely responsive to her.

I knew how much work it would take and what to do from reading every dog house thread, taking her to puppy classes, and by doing nothing else apart from training her. We took her everywhere - she travelled on the train, buses, tubes every day. We took her to the fireworks in a sling when she was 10 weeks old - not at all phased by anything.

She's 2 now and she does everything perfectly.

I knew that if I just kept doing the things I was doing she would eventually get it. Dh was not so sure - he got really irritated at the snappy foot phase which went on for weeks and weeks. I just kept telling him to turn his back and ignore her and she would stop. One day she just stopped.

I crate trained her and kept her in the bedroom right next to me. Best thing I ever did - she asked for a wee every night about 3am.

When the was totally toilet trained I then had her in bed with me. She kept jumping off to go back in the crate at first - not now, she's got her own pillow next to mine :))

He was great between about 5 months and 7 months - toilet trained, recalled well and obeyed commands. Then he went into his teenage phase and is still there - hyper, bitey, pulls on the lead - wine helps!

I can't remember exactly.... At one point I sat and cried because this puppy was horrible. He cried if he wasn't with me. When he was with me he would bounce all over mr...He used me as a chew toy. He ripped holes in all my clothes by grabbing them constantly. It just wasn't pleasant!!!

I think once he got his adult teeth he stopped the nibbling and grabbing. And lots of training and lots of treats and he slowly got better. He will do anything for certain treats (dried sausage things)
