Cruelty free puppy food

We have a new puppy. He’s just brilliant.
My family are all pescatarian. He is currently on puppy food which is meat/fish based and I understand that’s best for him.

But can anyone recommend a good puppy food that is as cruelty free as possible?
I have seen one, and it also offsets it’s carbon useage. But I wanted to compare a few and look at ingredients and price etc.

I thought Applaws used net caught tuna and caged chickens but I could be wrong.

Best thing is to contact the firms they legally have to give you the information

Are you planning on not wanting to feed your pup meat? If so, that's animal abuse. Dogs are carnivores :)

You can find some organic dog food brands which probably use better quality ingredients/ locally made etc if that helps put your mind at ease.

Dog food can get very expensive. We feed our puppy a mixture of wet meat food & puppy biscuits. I am primarily a vegan. (Sometimes eat fish, but always dairy free)

You'll probably want to balance it with making sure it's good quality from a nutritional point of view. Www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk is an excellent website for that.

I’m not planning on my dog not eating meat. Just from free range, organic sources if possible.

Looks like they are trying to be sustainable and environmentally as friendly as possible too.
But I have no idea about the quality of the food, or their reputation yet. Need to look into it more.

I’m no saint so don’t expect it to be perfect. But I think effort is great!

adoggymama. It is not animal abuse you are talking shite. A dog needs protein like a human does. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian dogs around.

I fed all most of my dogs raw and that can be easier to source.

Re vegan food one of my dogs is prescribed food from the vet and without it he will die as he has major issues. It contains soya and eggs so vegetarian food is possible and essential for some dogs.

My friends dog had to be vegetarian too for medical reasons. Lots of conflicting and strong feelings on it as a choice for dogs and I don’t feel like I know enough to make that decision. I’ve never had a dog before.
I don’t think I could cope with raw though. I’m rubbish at preparing my kids food, never mind my dog! Also I hate any raw meat/fish near me. Although I can see sourcing it would be easier

Our girl has Gentle, the fish based cold pressed kibble rather than the extruded stuff. I top it with a raw egg once a week and drizzle a bit of oil from tinned mackerel or sardines or a bit of fresh cooked fish from our supper the night before on other days.
She does have meat for treats, boiled turkey or chicken, frozen in chunks and then a couple of chunks defrosted daily but you equally could use a good quality packet treat like natures menu. She also likes to munch on raw cabbage leaves and has peanut butter or yoghurt with kibble or fish frozen into her Kong. Dogs can be vegetarian but not cats, a fish and veg based diet is fine.

I have found orijen which my friend swears by for her older pup. The ingredients they use are free range/line caught/nest laid.

Or Goood. The meat is free range etc and they carbon offset but not sure the ingredients are as good.

He’s not enjoying his food at the moment anyway. So definitely need to change it!
