Chewed bedding at the end of my tether, help!

Have 1 year old vizsla who chews and attacks his bedding when the mood takes him.
I am practically bankrupt from buying new stuff as well as murderous at the amount of mess he creates.
I can't seen to train him out of it and leaving him without a pad/blanket etc is obviously not an option.

we switched to rolls of vetbed until ours grew out of the habit. would he still destroy that?

What else does he have available to chew?

I might be tempted to divert the attention to something else you don't mind him chewing.

He has loads of stuff, he's not short of toys. He really seems to love shaking his bedding like a mad thing and tearing it to shreds.

do you have carpets?
If so then I would just buy the cheapest fleece blankets and give him one to sleep on to denote his space.
You can get them for less than £5 in places like Home Bargains.

Ditch the bedding and padded stuff.

Charity shops are your friend. Second hand blankets and towels that you don't worry about replacing. We have never bought dog beds for ours. They sleep on the furniture or on the floor of the bedroom.

When we had too many for the bedroom they slept in the kitchen in cardboard boxes lined with old bedding. If the box was chewed it was thrown out and replaced.

He has a crate to sleep in and the rest is laminate.
It looks like I'll just have to put up with mess until (please God) he grows out of it.

Loads of cheap fleece blankets. They don't need fancy pet beds.

Would they provide enough padding in his crate?
Not that he's pampered and spoilt or anything

We use faux fur throws, so no stuffing to get to and pull out.

When does he tend to chew it?

Our rescue collie was given up by numerous re-home attempts because of chewing everything up .
Has never ever chewed anything with us. We do play ball constantly all day (always someone here) and tire the dog out.
Would an extra walk in the day help?

This works for chewers and it keeps them cool and smell free.

He gets between 2 and 3 hours a day, mainly off lead plus some play time in the house as there tends to be someone here.

@Puppywithattitude I've had a viszla for the last 6 years and the one thing this is is exercise ! Dogs chew things when they are bored and viszlas need ALOT of exercise more than any other dog I've had, my dog needs an hour run every morning and half an hour in the evening at least

He’s clearly not underexercised Lara.
If it’s the picking up and shaking how about a heavy bed. (Mine has a single mattress. What do you mean spoilt?! ) If it’s to do with soft a hi k9 like in that pick could work. You can get them with a fleecy cover. Failing that YY to cheap rolls of vetbed.

Have you tried this sort of bed with blankets in ?

I also have a lab and she chewed every bed she had the ones with cotton inside and had to get her one of them and was perfect

We have a plastic bed like the pics shown in post above, with a cushioned pad. The cushioned pad seems to be our dog's favourite toy - he will bounce it about and chew it, but also sucks on it to calm down when overexcited. If he pulls the stuffing out I just shove it back in, til it's beyond repair then buy a new one
