Large lump that appeared on my great dane pup overnight

This morning Karlie woke me like she always does and when I started loving on her I noticed a large lump on her back close to her neck. The lump moves and is warm. We are new to the FL area and do not have a vet yet. Of course I googled it and now I'm crying. Has anyone had this happen with one of your furry babies?

Could it be that a grass seed has got embedded under her skin? Happened to mine under his chin. Had to have a little op to remove - apparently very common this time of year.

I'm not sure, she wasn't feeling good yesterday, laying around, water coming out of her back end. We're new to FL (1 week) and I've cautious about where I walk her. I thought her not feeling well was from her dog food (dry, Diamond brand) which was left outside in our truck. We are currently staying in a motel until we find a house. I googled leaving their dog food outside in the heat and it said all kinds of nasty things. So I got rid of 80lbs of that and went to Petsmart and got them new.

If she has watery stools I would consult a vet.
Vaccinated recently? How old?

Happymonster · 05/07/2018 13:15

I agree - speak to a vet - also I think most people on Mumsnet are in UK so probably different kinds of pests and illnesses than in Florida... it's been quite warm here recently (well for England anyway) and there has been lots of stuff in the news about dogs getting overheated and dehydrated - must be hard if you are in a Motel in the tropical heat!

She is 1 yr and no recent vaccines, the watery stools just started yesterday and I'm pretty sure that was from her food. Due to staying in a Motel at the time we had leave their dry food outside in our truck. I googled to see if the heat would hurt the food and read all kinds of scary stuff. So 80 pounds of food thrown away, they are both kept inside with us in the AC. Yes two great danes, spoiled rotten, sleep with us every night. That's why this morning when she woke me up with her little kiss on my nose and I rubbed her and noticed the lump that wasn't there yesterday.

Is she drinking? Running a high temp? I would want a vet to see her and maybe give something to settle her stomach.

heatwave2018 · 05/07/2018 13:54

You should take your dog to the Vets immediately to be checked over

karlie2017 · 05/07/2018 14:04

She's drinking fine, not sure if she's running a temp. We are staying in a motel and all of our belongings are being shipped here. I just called a vet and scheduled an appointment for her today. Actually for both of them, have them both checked to be safe.

That’s good she is drinking fine but best checking to be on safe side

Wolfiefan · 05/07/2018 14:23

Good luck for later. Maybe a bite? Insect? Hope she's better soon.

karlie2017 · 05/07/2018 14:35

Thank you I do too. These girls are like my children, I've been a wreck all morning since I found the lump.
