Dog no longer sits in same room as me

Sad

Had my dog for 4 years, she is approx 6 years old (rescue dog).

She is the calmest loveliest dog. Very laid back, sleeps loads, not hugely excited about walking all the time (often have to coax her out). Her behaviour has not changed since we got her (although very anxious for first couple of months). She has always cuddled up on sofa, wanted to be beside me. She slept sometimes with me but mostly in her bed outside my room and cane in for cuddles in morning.

Suddenly over last 2 weeks though she has started sleeping all day upstairs on her bed, no cuddles on sofa, or in bed. She appears well, is eating etc exactly as before.

She does love my hot water bottle (empty) and that is upstairs on her bed now. Is it that? She will growl at my daughter if she goes near it and has growled at me too which is very unusual.

Should I take it away or could there be something else up?

I’m perplexed & upset!

She could be in pain... Has anything happened recently that could have spooked her? I would take her to the vets since it’s such a change.

RandomMess · 18/06/2018 18:53

Sounds like she's in pain so needs to go to the vets ASAP.

borntobequiet · 18/06/2018 18:55

Could you be pregnant?

MrsMozart · 18/06/2018 18:55

I'd take her to the vet for a check over.

It almost sounds like a phantom pregnancy.

Prestonsflowers · 18/06/2018 18:58

I was just about to post the same MrsMozart. This behaviour sounds exactly like our dogs when they had phantom pregnancies.

Doidontimmm · 18/06/2018 18:59

Id not considered pain as she appears well in every other way. She spends every other weekend at my exh with my kids and no change there at all.

I’m definitely not pregnant!

I’m off to google phantom pregnancy in dogs.

She was spayed though 4 years ago?

Sounds like she could be in pain. I'd get her checked out by your vet. My dog always takes herself upstairs and wants to be left alone if she's feeling unwell. Any change in behaviour is worthwhile checking out
