Puppy signalled to go out and I ignored it lol

So we are in day 5 of toilet training my new pup. It’s been going well with me taking her out regularly to avoid accidents.

This afternoon I fed the cat in the kitchen then closed to kitchen door to prevent the puppy chasing the cat away and eating her food.

Pup played for about a minute and then started scratching at the door and whining. I assumed she wanted the cats food so ignored it. She then promptly pooed on the floor and I realise she was telling me she wanted to go out.

I feel such an idiot! The first time she signals she needs the toilet and I ignore it. How much damage have I done to her toilet training? Now she things that scratching at the door doesn’t get it opened!

Bad, Bad owner Grin

I'm sure she won't hold it against you.

Also watch for tracking: nose down on the floor looking for a suitable place and of course turning in circles.

Sounds like you're doing great if she asking to go out already.

Wow what a clever pup Grin

Not much damage at all - she wants to poo outside so that will be her default setting - try and get her outside for the next few times and all be forgotten.

If if were only so easy to train the DC's......

DP did the same with our pup - he was in the bathroom and couldn't open the door in time.

He still manages to signal and hasn't had an accident since. Your pup will be fine, I promise :)
